The Philadelphia 76ers appear to have an interest in getting OG Anunoby from the New York Knicks this offseason. With the NBA Conference Finals currently taking place, every postseason contender that has fallen short of their goal has been looking to make changes to their roster or coaching in order to get better for the next season.
The 76ers are one of those teams. After all, they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the New York Knicks. Since the 76ers have a limited window of opportunity with Joel Embiid, fans can certainly understand why the team is eager to make upgrades to their roster. With that being said, let us take a closer look and find out more.
OG Anunoby dealt with multiple injuries towards the end of this season
After making a trade for OG Anunoby, the New York Knicks appeared to be a different team and were able to finish the season with the second-best record in the Eastern Conference. While having OG on their roster helped the Knicks finish the season well, he was injured for several stretches and was unable to stay on the court consistently for the Knicks in the playoffs.
Anunoby had an elbow injury and had to undergo surgery. When he finally made his return, he sustained a hamstring injury. He was one of the many members of the Knicks dealing with injuries throughout their postseason push.
Will adding OG Anunoby to their roster help the Philadelphia 76ers become title contenders?
Anunoby has averaged 14.7 points and 4.2 rebounds with the Knicks this season. He has also established himself as an elite and willing defender. Since his contract is about to expire, reports reveal that the 76ers will make him an offer, which will force the Knicks to match the same at the very least. At the moment, OG can be considered a backup for the 76ers under the assumption that they are unable to get Paul George or another wing defender.
