Jamal Murray, the Canadian basketball player has made a lot of noise in the postseason, post his injury return. He was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 2016, as a 7th overall pick. The youngster was a great addition to the team’s big man, Nikola Jokic. Both players have pushed the team’s limits, standing in position as title winners. Murray has been a great performer, especially in the postseason, though he still lacks an All-Star selection.

Murray played professionally in Canada before he came to the US to play for the University of Kentucky. After one season with the Wildcats, Murray was declared for the NBA draft.
His journey to the NBA was phenomenal, having his father teach him the game right from the basics. He was even spotted dancing with the Nuggets’ NBA trophy in 2023. Murray’s parents were supportive of his career, as Jamal started playing basketball at the early age of three.
Where are Jamal Murray’s parents from?
Jamal was born to Roger and Sylvia Murray on February 23, 1997. His father, Roger Murray was born in Jamaica, and he later moved to Canada at the age of 9. Whereas Murray’s mother, Sylvia Murray is originally from Syria and also proceeded to Canada as a kid. Both of his parents have certainly come a long way from home and have paved the way for Jamal’s success.
Jamal is a Canadian-Jamaican player, who grew up in Kitchener, Ontario. Murray did not move to any other country before his Kentucky days. He worked his way out to make it to the league, with his father being his coach and mentor.
While Jamal made his dream come true, playing basketball at the highest level, his younger brother, Lamar Murray is set to achieve the same. Lamar is around 5-10 years younger than his elder brother Jamal. Currently attending the Orangeville Prep Basketball Academy, Lamar is following in his brother’s footsteps. The basketball academy provides a lot of opportunities, as we might see Lamar on the prospects list in a few years.
To make it to the NBA, Lamar will have to compete professionally in Canada before he can make his debut. If the teen manages to be one of the best high school players in his country, he’ll surely get a D1 offer in his senior year. Like Jamal, he’ll have to get past the competition if he wishes to play alongside his brother one day. Jamal is very supportive of his younger brother’s career, helping him through his journey to one day play on the big stage.
