However, in 1993, when Kevin Sr. was just 19 years old, his life took a dark turn. He was charged with first-degree murder after a horrifying incident. An eyewitness claimed that Porter pointed a gun at a 14-year-old girl, threatening to shoot her, and then proceeded to pull the trigger in his car.
Porter maintained that the shooting was accidental. According to his account, while in the car, the girl had asked to see his semi-automatic gun, and it had discharged unintentionally when he handed it to her.
The eyewitness, who initially testified that Porter had intentionally shot the girl, later reframed his statement. Despite the conflicting accounts, Porter ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of intentional manslaughter. He was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison.
