Golden State Warriors fans were taken aback to find out that the team was recently spotted working out with Dwight Howard. As many fans will remember, the last postseason didn’t go as planned for GSW. Despite being the defending champions and favored to repeat, they were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers.
Although there were several reasons cited for their failure, there is no denying the disappointment dub nation felt over this unexpected loss to the Lakers. Since the team still has Stephen Curry in his prime, they are doing everything possible to get better for the upcoming 2023-2024 NBA season.
Several reports were made announcing that the Warriors were working out with players in order to see how they would fit in. Now, Dwight Howard has been added to the mix. Since Howard is no longer in the NBA, fans are quite divided as to whether this was a good move by the Golden State Warriors. With that being said, let us take a closer look and find out more.
Will the Golden State Warriors sign Dwight Howard?
Since Dwight Howard has not been around the NBA for a while, people have quickly forgotten what he is capable of doing. Veteran fans will remember that a young Dwight was able to carry the Orlando Magic all the way to the NBA Finals and even eliminated LeBron James in the process. He is arguably one of the top 20 centers that the game of basketball has ever seen.
Despite wanting to continue his career in the league, Dwight was not given a chance by any NBA team. Therefore, he decided to play overseas in Taiwan. The Warriors management likely knows what Howard brings to the table for their team and decided to call him for a workout.

One of the most important variables that went against the Warriors last season was their lack of size. They simply didn’t have players large enough to guard the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. In that regard, the addition of Dwight would certainly help them. However, some fans don’t seem to think bringing on an older player is a good idea, “Warriors looking like a retirement home.”

Although he is 37 years old, Howard is still an impressive defensive presence and rebounder. He can protect the rim and go toe to toe with some of the best centers in the NBA. Therefore, adding him to the roster for additional size would undoubtedly help GSW remain in contention next season. Moreover, they will not have to dole out an expensive contract or deal with other bidders for Dwight.
I agree that age is an issue. But they need the size and ability to play physical, that’s the issues they had with the Lakers. They have very little cap space, so someone like Dwight is really the best of very limited options…

Since GSW has been working out with a lot of players this offseason, we do not know if they will definitely sign Howard. All we know is that the two parties have met and engaged in a workout. We look forward to seeing if Howard finds his way back to the league with the Warriors next season.
