Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young has once again jumped on the topic of penalizing referees for wrong calls. After yet another game night, some NBA players are at the referee’s throats and feel the referees influenced games. Luka Doncic was slammed for his antics toward the referee against the Golden State Warriors. This has become a concern after referees have indulged in inconsistent calls, which has led to the teams suffering.
There is no information about referees being penalized after protests from the players on wrong calls. This may be a case where the officials are protected by the organization to an unhealthy extent. The regular season is coming to an end and teams have crucial games which could potentially decide their season. This is a critical moment for all the teams and fair officiating could very well be a deciding factor.
Instead of just making a call & moving on, now the call will mean something to THEM as well. #Accountability 🤷🏽♂️

Back in September 2022, Trae took to Twitter to place his opinion about referees making open statements. “A lot of different, new rules to the game that are kinda “judgemental” calls, why can’t the media interview them postgame too?.? Maybe discuss some of there biggest calls that may or may have not changed the outcome of that game,” Trae opined.
Trae, like other players in the league, has been a victim of bad officiating. LeBron James against the Boston Celtics was denied a foul call, which could be clearly visible. If the foul was given, the Lakers could have potentially won the game. However, it left the King frustrated at the official’s no-call and he said that the game was decided by the refs.
Trae Young believes Adam Silver-led NBA should hold referees accountable through fines & suspensions
Young and the Hawks should’ve had the chance to take the lead late in the game. The referees in the pool report admitted that a foul call should have been made against Taurean Prince. The game was determined by fine margins, with the Wolves winning, 125-124. However, Young wasn’t happy about it either as they have to now deal with the loss.
“Refs should be held more accountable ($, suspensions, etc.) just like us. They shouldn’t get ‘We missed it’ passes.’”

He made a strong point that the referees should be held more accountable in ways of fines and suspensions. “Refs should be held more accountable ($, suspensions, etc.) just like us. They shouldn’t get ‘We missed it’ passes,’” Trae spoke in the post-game interview. This is a wake-up call for the organization to keep the referees in check, similar to how the players are made to face the repercussions of their actions.
