NBA fans aren’t too pleased with Steve Kerr and are demanding that he never be allowed the head coaching position for Team USA again. As some fans might be aware, Steve Kerr was selected to coach Team USA along with Erik Spoelstra and Tyron Lue as his assistant coaches.
Despite having an incredibly talented roster and management, Team USA was unable to win the 2023 FIBA World Cup or even make the Finals. Instead, they were eliminated from further contention by Team Germany in the semi-finals.
Not many basketball fans in this world predicted that Germany would defeat Team USA. Although there is always a lot of blame to hand out when things fail, the majority of the negative criticism seems to be aimed at Steve Kerr. Let us take a closer look and find out why.
Why is Steve Kerr being blamed for the failure of Team USA?
Veteran fans already know the impressive resume of Steve Kerr. He is one of the few people in the world who can claim to have won multiple championships as both a player and a coach. Despite being extremely accomplished as an individual, Kerr was unable to coach his team through this international tournament.
Not only did they lose a seeding game to Lithuania, but Team USA was eliminated by Germany, a team that NBA analysts predicted to be vastly superior. Although their FIBA journey should have ended then, Team USA had to stick around to face Canada for the third-place award.
If there were any Team USA fans who were sympathetic or understanding of Kerr’s situation, all of that likely changed after Team USA lost to Canada. Since Team USA lost thrice in a 7 game span at the FIBA World Cup, fans took out their negative emotions on Steve Kerr and held him accountable, “Steve Kerr should never coach a USA team again.”

Perhaps it is unfair to hand out all the blame to the GSW head coach. After all, the assistant coaches and players should also be held liable. In any case, it is highly unlikely for fans to see Steve Kerr as the head coach for Team USA once again after their recent losses.
