Steve Kerr has made the decision to miss the next game for the Golden State Warriors in order to attend the funeral of Dejan Milojević. As most members of the basketball community should be aware, Kerr is a former NBA star and is currently the head coach for the Warriors. He coached Steph Curry and the rest of the squad to win 4 NBA championships within the span of 8 years and is considered by many to be one of the top coaches in the modern era.
Dejan’s name might not be as familiar to NBA fans. Although the Serbian national never played in the NBA, he was incredibly respected for his understanding and knowledge of the game. Before his unfortunate death, Milojević was an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors and helped Steve Kerr coach the team with his input and suggestions.

After news broke out that Dejan Milojević had died, Kerr made the decision to travel to Serbia in order to pay his respects to the passing of an old friend and colleague.
Will Steve Kerr’s absence affect the Golden State Warriors vs Utah Jazz game?
While no one has accused Steve Kerr of being an irresponsible coach over the many years, some NBA fans might question if deciding to travel to Serbia in the middle of the season is the right decision. GSW is finally finding its momentum and is coming off a victory against the Phoenix Suns.
How did Dejan Milojević’ die?
Dejan Milojević was not an old man on the last dregs of life. He was only 46 years old before sustaining a heart attack which cost him his life. Dejan was hospitalized during a team dinner and soon died. The Serbian Basketball Federation’s president Predrag Danilović made quite an emotional statement after hearing about the death of Dejan.
“A great basketball player, great coach left us, and above all a great man, a man without a single stain. I had that honor and pleasure to be friends with him even though we did not play together…”
Although there is no denying that the Serbians knew him quite well, the same can be said about Steve Kerr, who likely sat next to Dejan for several years while coaching the Warriors. Fans hope that the funeral goes as planned and have Dejan’s family in their thoughts and prayers.
