Fans became a little sentimental on social media as one said, “Small acts of kindness change lives. I know little man was shooting 3’s for a week with the best form.” Another fan added, “Look at Curry man, so inspirational.” But the main reason why Steph’s attention was drawn toward the young fan was because he wore a particular jersey that was close to the icon’s heart.
When did Steph Curry wear No.20?
For those who have closely followed the life of Steph Curry, he has lived in various places growing up. A major reason why Curry moved so often was because his father played in the NBA. Dell Curry initially played for the Charlotte Hornets but made a move up north to Toronto to compete for the Raptors. This also briefly moved the family to Toronto as well. While he was there, Steph played for the Queensway Christian Colleges boy’s basketball team and Toronto 5-0.
Eventually, the time came when Dell had to retire from the NBA and the Currys moved back to Charlotte to settle down. Steph was enrolled in the Charlotte Christian Academy. The NBA Champion was named all-conference and all-state while leading the Charlotte Christian Academy Knights to multiple titles. It was at Charlotte Christian that Steph wore No.20 on his back.
Steph Curry was forced to wear No.20 in high school because of his size
Nowadays, we see Steph Curry lift heavy weights in the gym and the word going around is that he can deadlift around 400lbs. However, before bulking, Steph was an incredibly skinny individual, and not many believed he would be cut out for a sport like basketball. According to Marc Stein, Steph was asked to wear No.20 because he wasn’t bulky enough. That’s because the number itself didn’t fit properly on his jersey.
Unfortunately, his build would become a problem when it came to transition into college. However, Steph was fortunate enough that he got a chance to play for Davidson College. Eventually, he would make his way into the NBA in 2009 and make history like nobody’s ever seen before. The Golden State Warriors still find a lot of success with the 36-year-old on the floor.
