Shaquille O’Neal recently made his feelings on LeBron James and Stephen Curry representing the USA very clear. Fans who might not be aware of international events might know that Team USA was recently eliminated from the 2023 FIBA World Cup and finished the tournament in the 4th spot.
Considering that this team was the favorite to win it all, it was quite surprising to see them beaten by significantly less talented teams such as Germany. Since the team ended up losing, several fans have opined that the team should send its best NBA stars moving forward, as opposed to the younger and more enthusiastic upcoming stars.
Though he is no longer in the league, O’Neal has still remained a very important part of the basketball community and is now also in the media. Shaq recently posted something on social media. It has convinced fans that Team USA should seriously be considering sending out their best squad next year at the 2024 Paris Olympics. That said, let us take a closer look at what Shaq had to say on this subject.
Shaquille O’Neal wants LeBron James and Stephen Curry on the Team USA roster
One might just be able to argue that Team USA was unable to win the 2023 FIBA World Cup due to the fact that the best players in the country such as Curry and LeBron didn’t participate this time. It might have been a completely different story if those seasoned and experienced NBA legends were on the court for Team USA.

Shaquille O’Neal certainly seems to think so. After Team USA lost to Team Canada and couldn’t even secure third place, Shaq decided to make his feelings clear by sharing an edited photo that was made on Instagram.

As we can tell, O’Neal likely believes that a combination of top-tier USA athletes such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Davis would have gotten the job done. After all, most of those players are certified NBA champions and superstars. They might have been able to get Team USA past teams like Lithuania, Germany, and Canada without suffering a loss.
Unfortunately, we will never know if the former Lakers star’s ideal lineup would have won the 2023 FIBA World Cup without a doubt. Hopefully, we get to see a few stars from his list on Team USA next year as they compete in the 2024 Olympics.
