Fans were pleased to find out that a documentary based on Shaquille O’Neal called “Shaq: The Rookie Season” is soon to be released. Not many of us were aware that a film was being made surrounding the 4x NBA champion. After all, Shaq retired from the league more than a decade ago.
Nonetheless, he is an NBA legend and a global personality, even in retirement. Since it has been many years since we saw O’Neal on the court, this documentary serves as a reminder of what he was capable of during his youth. NBA fans should be interested in knowing when it is set to be released and what they should expect from it based on the previews so far.
The Shaquille O’Neal documentary is expected to be released at 10:00 pm ET
The documentary was made public only a few hours before its actual release. NBA TV shared a message on Twitter revealing that “Shaq: The Rookie Season” will be aired tonight on NBA TV. Fans are already excited and throwing praise at O’Neal while remembering what he was capable of doing on the court years ago.
As for the actual documentary, it appears to have footage of Shaq playing with the Orlando Magic during his first year in the league. It showed all his incredible plays and acts of incredible strength like breaking the basketball backboard.
Shaq came into the NBA with a tremendous amount of pressure.

There were also interviews with multiple players like Reggie Miller and Charles Barkley. Fans will remember that both those NBA stars battled against O’Neal many years ago and ended up losing. Shaq was also obviously interviewed and went in-depth about his mentality and approach to the game all those years ago.
Fans will remember that Shaq was the 1st pick in the 1992 NBA draft and entered the league with a lot of pressure on his shoulders. He helped the NBA grow greatly throughout his years playing. This was with his incredible play on the court and larger-than-life personality off the court and with the media.
Shaq was truly sensational during his rookie year. He averaged 23.4 points, 13.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and an incredible 3.5 blocked shots per game. He won both the Rookie of the Year award and made the NBA All-star game that year.
Being a rookie and making the all-star game is something we hadn’t seen after Michael Jordan and Shaq managed to accomplish the deed. While this documentary does not cover his entire career, it focuses on the beginning of Shaq’s illustrious NBA career.
