Scottie Pippen was one of the best players in the league back in the 90s. Winning six championships alongside Michael Jordan, Pippen was seen as the second-best player in the league at the time. Drafted by the Bulls in 87′, Scottie was the missing piece of the franchise. The Bulls had already drafted Michael Jordan, though they needed more support on the roster. Pippen adapted to the roster quite quickly and the team was ready to be title contenders.
In the 80s, salaries weren’t as handsome as they are today. The best players of the league were paid around $2 million at best. Pippen was no exception, as he was offered a 4-year, $2.8 million rookie contract in 1987.
Scottie’s performance was no match to his contract, as his improvements exceeded the franchise’s expectations. During his first stint with the Bulls, Scottie’s contract did not match his status. However later on, Pippen was awarded the bag he always deserved, earning the amount he should’ve while with the Bulls.
Scottie Pippen earned four times more post his championship run
When his rookie contract expired, Pippen signed a veteran extension in 1991. The 7-year $19.4 million contract wasn’t worth it down the line. The Bulls had won three consecutive championships by 1993. Pippen was a crucial part of the team, though his contract was just halfway through its expiration date.
By the time the Bulls won their 5th title in the 90s, Pippen was heavily underpaid. Pippen was earning $2.7 million in 1998, compared to Jordan‘s $30 million. The difference between their salaries was huge, though the duo’s importance only kept the Bulls’ championship hopes alive.
Following his sixth championship, Pippen made $22.2 million throughout the course of 11 seasons with the Bulls. He then signed with the Blazers in 1999, signing a 5-year, $77.3 million, as the last 7 years of his career made him about $87.6 million.
His total income from his NBA contracts turned out to be $109,957,430. Pippen almost earned four times the amount he had made in his first 11 seasons. Pippen’s net worth is estimated to be around $30 million, which increased very steadily throughout the years.
Recently, Pippen’s ex-wife, Larsa Pippen was awarded funds from Scottie’s retirement plans. Scottie and Larsa had filed for divorce, following which a set of agreements were signed. Pippen had agreed to pay a certain amount in child support, involving the custody of his two young children.
As reported earlier, Larsa is set to receive about half the sum of Scottie’s 401K and the savings trust plan. Pippen earned more than $100 million playing for the Bulls, as the exact amount to be received by Larsa is not known, but we can assume it to be a wealthy figure.
