SUMMARY
- Anthony Edwards' new Adidas AE1 'ASG' version for the All-Star Weekend creates excitement with its vibrant design.
- Kendrick Perkins boldly claims Edwards saved Adidas after a stellar game.
The star guard of the No. 1 seeded Minnesota Timberwolves has again hit the headlines. This time, it’s for the news of revamping his old kicks before February’s All-Star game. Edward’s first signature sneaker, the Adidas AE1, made a show in September 2023. The pair hit the market on December 13, 2023, and depicted Edward’s tribute to his mother and grandmother.
Although the signature line has quite a few variant kicks in the collection, the new kicks are a cut above. The new ‘ASG’ version of the Adidas AE1 showcases what the sneaker giant plans to do in the All-Star games. This version has been revamped with a purple and green glittering finish. The Adidas logo dazzles in the back, while the top portion has retained the black color. The TPU is textured and has a neon finish, along with a stellar cushioning system.
Not only do the kicks seem good to score in overtime, but they also make a mark while scoring a bucket. The logo adopted the neon yellow color, while the laces adorn the basic black touch. The kicks also have some hard-to-notice features. For example, the neon stripes under the sole and a futuristic split tongue featuring Edward’s logo.

Such vibrant colors have caused a frenzy among fans as they flood the post on X. Nick DePaula floated the post on January 19, 2024, and the comments section is worth having a look at. A fan even said, “We’ve never seen a better debut signature sneaker before.” While others were comparing Edward’s kicks to the one launched by Tatum, some fans were in awe of the new color-shift outlook.
This version of the basketball kicks seems to shed off those ‘Black Panther’ vibes. Although Adidas has not announced a release date for the same, fans expect the price to fall within the same price range. The question remains: even though Edwards’ new signature kicks have been a great success, has he saved Adidas?
Kendrick Perkins credits Anthony Davis for saving Adidas
The ‘Ant-Man’ inked the deal with Adidas in 2020 and has launched various kicks with a black and pastel color combination. It’s worth noting that Adidas has a valuation of $34.41 billion as per Macrotrends. However, a recent statement by Kendrick Perkins portrays Edwards as the savior of Adidas.

‘Ant-Man’ secured 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, while the Timberwolves swept the floor against the Grizzlies on January 18, 2024. After the star guard led the team to a stellar 118-103 win over the Grizzlies, there was talk that Edwards was the new face of the NBA. On ‘ESPN BET’, Kendrick Perkins said, “I’m telling you right now, the conversation is dead. I don’t even want to hear it. He got all the ‘it’ factor. He saved Adidas; he saved Adidas.”
That’s a huge claim for a player who has played slightly over three seasons. Not only that, Perkins went on to praise the 22-year-old for a couple more minutes. It’s a fact that Edwards has made a massive impact on the brand, given his initial ‘With Love’ kicks and the newly debuted ‘Best of Adi’. However, the statement is nothing but an exaggeration of the ground reality.
