SUMMARY
- Klay Thompson is reaching the end of his contract with the Golden State Warriors.
- Sources claim Thompson could be picked up by the Orlando Magic during the off-season.
As much as we wish that the Golden State Warriors Big 3 keep competing for an eternity, there will come a time when that era ends. Unfortunately, based on how we’ve seen them struggle this season, you might consider it the end of the dynasty that was created. But Klay Thompson has been the biggest target this season amidst all the rumors that have been going around.
After having a good run during the 2022-23 season, Klay Thompson’s productivity has plummeted tremendously. This season, he has averaged 17.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. While these numbers aren’t as bad as they were earlier in the season, Thompson is simply not to the same threat teams used to consider him earlier. Considering that he’s on an expiring contract, how likely will Thompson remain with the franchise?
Klay Thompson could find himself in Orlando next season
Klay Thompson was linked to trade talks earlier this season and one of the biggest teams mentioned was the Orlando Magic. This team is having an exceptional with Paolo Banchero at the forefront and the Wagner brothers having the time of their lives. According to Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, the Magic could pay Thompson a hefty sum to support them offensively and bring them some veteran leadership.

Kawakami said, “One of the worst-kept secrets in the league is that Orlando, loaded with young talent but not with shooters, might offer Klay a ton of money next summer. Meanwhile, Joe Lacob has said the Warriors want to get all the way out of the luxury tax next summer.” Kawakami elaborated that the Warriors can tap out of their luxury tax given that they remain disciplined in what they offer Thompson while possibly keeping a player like Chris Paul.
The Warriors do not wish to part ways with Klay Thompson
All three players from the Big 3 in the Bay Area have always expressed how important they are to each other. Steph Curry once revealed that they dream of staying together no matter the circumstance. Luckily, it goes both ways, with the athletes and the franchise. An NBA executive revealed that the Warriors do not intend to part ways with Thompson after his contract expires.

They told Hoopshype, “The Warriors can’t let him walk. He’s a four-time champion, and they can’t really replace him… Maybe they tie his deal to Steph’s. Klay’s value is in the $20-25 million range.” The executive also claimed that Thompson could gradually reduce his role on the roster and work with their depth lineups. The Warriors have already implemented this and Thompson has played well coming off the bench.
