LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers went through various struggles this season. They were criticized for their age, lack of defense, and shooting. The criticism was accurate as they failed to make the NBA playoffs and even missed the play-in tournament this season.
King James has always had an active life on social media. He is constantly posting on Twitter, Instagram, or other mediums. LeBron’s voice holds value and when he reacts, people pay attention. He recently posted a cryptic tweet that has many potential implications. The wording of this tweet and its essence deserve greater analysis.
LeBron James addressed his tweet to the creator of basketball
Lebron has always had a flair for the dramatic. He seems to hold other people’s opinions and perspectives higher than he should. This is the consequence of being a public figure under constant media scrutiny. James and the Lakers failed to come close to their expectations this season. The Lakers management, Russel Westbrook and Anthony Davis are variables that he could not control this season.
The Internet is a cruel place, especially for those in the limelight. LeBron must have heard many, many forms of criticism for his and his team’s play this season. Therefore, he decided to respond through an amusingly intellectual tweet.
It’s so funny to me how many basketball experts there are on this app. Everybody Dr. James Naismith! It’s fascinating. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
— LeBron James (@KingJames) June 6, 2022
As shown, he is mocking all the so-called analysts on Twitter. He wonders how there are so many experts in the field of basketball and describes it as ” fascinating”. He then directly addresses Dr. James Naismith as the potential recipient of this message.
James Naismith was born on November 6th, 1861, and passed away on November 28th, 1939. Therefore, it is clear that he could not have possibly received LeBron’s message. Naismith is the true founder and inventor of the sport of basketball. He wrote the original rule book and founded the University of Kansas basketball program.
King James chose to draw upon Naismith’s name as a way of putting these potential “wannabe experts” in their place. After all half, his critics on the internet may not understand the most basic aspects of the game. Lebron chose to use this tweet to subtly remind the people that they should not parade their opinions around like they have accomplished something in the sport.
LeBron definitely has a point. However, it is absurd to expect people to stop sharing their so-called expert opinions simply because they have not done enough for the sport of basketball. Additionally, to those who do not know the history of the sport, this tweet will seem cryptic and make no sense.
