In the world of sports, inspiration often comes from unexpected sources. For the Miami Marlins star outfielder, Jazz Chisholm Jr., that source of inspiration was none other than basketball legend Michael Jordan. In a recent podcast appearance on “On Base with Mookie Betts,” Chisholm shared a touching story that has defined his journey.
From a young fan seeking an autograph to becoming an MLB All-Star and the latest addition to the Jordan Brand, Jazz Chisholm Jr., who hails from the Bahamas, vividly recalls the moment when his path intersected with that of His Airness.
At the age of 10, Chisholm found himself at a celebrity softball game in his homeland, and the basketball icon was also present. A young Chisholm grabbed the courage to approach his idol and request an autograph. Jordan’s response, however, was unexpected.

As he approached Jordan, the NBA legend, instead of giving a signature, gave a powerful message. Jordan looked at Chisholm and said, “One day, make me want your autograph, kid”. These words, though simple, left an indelible mark on Chisholm, igniting a fire within him to strive for greatness.
Chisholm Jr. did not take Jordan’s challenge lightly. He dedicated himself to excelling in baseball, and the results speak for themselves. In 2022, he earned a spot on the National League All-Star team. In the current season, Chisholm has continued to shine, maintaining a batting average of .260, along with 16 home runs and 19 stolen bases.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. became only the 5th MLB player to sign with the Jordan brand
As Jazz Chisholm Jr. found success on the baseball diamond, he also realized another dream: becoming a Nike athlete. However, his aspirations did not stop there. Chisholm’s pursuit of excellence led him to the pinnacle of recognition in the sports world: signing a contract with Jordan Brand.
This significant milestone places him in an elite group of athletes. He becomes only the fifth Major League Baseball player to join the Jordan Brand roster. His name now stands alongside other luminaries like Mookie Betts, Aaron Judge, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and David Price.

Chisholm expressed his excitement, stating, “It means everything to me. You know, I’m always the guy that never really wanted to do the same thing as people, I always wanted to be one of a few, you know, I mean not one of many, so it’s great that this is what I always wanted and this is what I’m glad to be a part of”.
His journey from a young boy seeking an autograph to an MLB All-Star and Jordan Brand athlete is nothing short of remarkable. His electrifying style of play and unwavering commitment to his craft have endeared him to fans worldwide. Chisholm didn’t merely meet Jordan’s challenge; he exceeded it, probably making Michael Jordan himself a fan of his talents.
