Former NBA player Tristan Thompson made quite an interesting statement about Kyrie Irving potentially reuniting with his former teammate LeBron James as a Los Angeles Laker. As all NBA fans will be aware by now, Irving was traded by the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks following a plethora of controversies and criticism.
Although Kyrie expressed interest in playing with LeBron again, he was unable to decide his preferred destination since he still had a year remaining on his existing contract and was not a free agent. Since the Dallas Mavericks are currently struggling and many have claimed that Irving and Doncic don’t make a good superstar duo, the likelihood of him leaving to join the Lakers is not dead yet.
Let us take a look at what Thompson had to say on this issue. After all, he is one of the few players who had the privilege of playing with Irving and James during their time with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Tristan Thompson claims that Kyrie Irving and LeBron James are a match made in heaven
Although the use of a term like “match made in heaven” is usually used for couples, there is no denying that it applies to Kyrie and LeBron. They managed to dominate and figuratively run the Eastern Conference for three straight years. Their playstyles also complimented the other incredibly well at the time and could make the case for being one of the best duos that the NBA has ever seen.

They even managed to win the NBA title in 2016 after being down 3-1 to the Golden State Warriors. This is widely regarded by many as one of the greatest championships in NBA history. However, there was friction and turmoil between both of them and it was revealed that Kyrie no longer wanted to live in LeBron’s shadow. Be that as it may, he has recently revealed that leaving was a bad move and that he regrets it.
Coming back to Thompson, he was interviewed by Draymond Green and revealed that the chances of Irving reuniting with James are still quite high, “I’ve been pushing them reuniting and coming together for so long… Well Kyrie and LeBron are a match made in heaven like they brought the best out of each other…It was beautiful to watch their two-man game side pick and roll because they’re so dynamic and great at so many different things but together its like they were almost unstoppable..”
“I’ve been pushing that reuniting, coming together for so long. With Kyrie and LeBron, it was almost like a match made in heaven. They brought the best out of each other… it’s not over yet.”

While Tristan certainly makes a valid point, fans should keep in mind that Bron and Kai are at very different points in their career when compared to their time together. Therefore, their present-day combination might not be as unstoppable. Although it could still be very deadly in today’s NBA.
