- LeBron James reveals a desire to add the DPOY award to his collection of accomplishments.
- King James compared his not winning the award but making all NBA defensive team to Beyonce winning Grammys but not album of the year awards.
LeBron James made quite a bizarre comparison to his predicament over having not won the DPOY award throughout his career. As almost all NBA fans should be aware, King James is a 4x NBA champion and widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the league.
While LeBron has accumulated quite a lot of accolades and accomplishments throughout his career, he never won the Defensive Player of the Year award. Since the Lakers star has multiple championships, MVPs, and other awards to his name, one might assume that this doesn’t bother him. However, King James recently revealed that it does and even made an interesting comparison to explain his feelings on the subject.
Is LeBron James a great defender?
Over the years, King James has established an impression of being an all-around player who does everything that is required on the court. From scoring to rebounding to facilitating to playing defense, there is almost nothing that we have not seen LeBron do over the past 2 decades. While there are several compilations of impressive steals and blocks, the 4x NBA champion has not been acknowledged enough to win the DPOY.
When asked about his feelings on the subject, LeBron revealed that the DPOY award was the only accolade that was missing from his career. He went on to claim that it bothered him and even drew a comparison to Beyonce and her musical accolades.
LeBron says it doesn’t make sense that he hasn’t won DPOY, comparing it to Beyoncé never winning AOTY
“The year I finished 2nd… the guy who won Defensive Player of the Year didn’t even make 1st Team All-Defense”

“Yeah DPOY yeah that’s the only award that I don’t have in my house it kind of stings. I’ve talked about this before like it don’t make sense it’s almost like what Jay Z said about B How can she have the most Grammys but never won Album of the Year. So the year I finished second in DPOY award, the guy who won the DPOY award didn’t even make first-team all-defense.”
Perhaps LeBron makes a valid point. After all, he has made the all-defensive team 6 times in his career but never won the DPOY award. This might make NBA fans wonder if he was snubbed and what his best season on the defense end looked like.
LeBron James’ best defensive season so far
King James is at the backend of his career and simply does not have the ability to play at full strength on both ends of the court. However, LeBron was a very different player in his prime and used his athletic abilities to dominate on the defensive end as well as the offensive end.
In any case, LeBron James’ time in the NBA has not come to a complete end and fans are left wondering if he will be able to add the DPOY award to his long list of awards and accomplishments.
