Steve Kerr was recently interviewed and questioned about his thoughts regarding Steph Curry. As most NBA fans will know, Kerr is the head coach for the Golden State Warriors and helped the team establish itself as a dynasty over the past decade. Some fans might also know that Kerr is a former NBA star known for his time with the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.
Curry is an NBA star who needs no introduction. The 4x champion is widely regarded as the greatest point guard and the best shooter that the game of basketball has ever seen. When asked about Steph’s current play in comparison to his own, Kerr kept things real with the NBA media.
Steve Kerr believes Steph Curry’s durability is heavily underrated
The Warriors coach was questioned about Steph’s performance this season and asked what his missing the recent game against the Utah Jazz would mean. The interviewer pointed out that Steve Kerr also played quite well towards the back end of his career. “It wasn’t hard for me, I played like 12 minutes a game. Even at 37, 12 minutes is very doable…What Steph does is superhuman. I think it’s his most underrated quality, his endurance, strength, and his ability to fly around like he does. Absorbing all the defensive pressure that teams put on him…He just keeps himself in immaculate condition and he’s just been amazing in that regard over the years.”
Steve Kerr certainly makes a valid point. After all, fans tend to focus on Steph’s unreal shooting ability and inadvertently tend to ignore his other skills. Since Kerr was initially compared to Curry, one might wonder how both of them measure up in terms of statistics throughout their respective careers.
Comparing Steph Curry and Steve Kerr’s stats
Throughout his NBA career, Steve Kerr averaged 6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Although he was quite an efficient shooter who made 45.4% of his three-point attempts, it is important to note that Kerr was never really the face of a franchise or a volume shooter. After all, he has never averaged more than 3 three-point attempts a game.
