As soon as Caitlin Clark announced she was declaring for the 2024 WNBA Draft, it was obvious that she would be the No.1 overall pick. Clark had an incredible college run at the University of Iowa. She broke a number of records and also became the NCAA’s all-time scoring leader, surpassing Pete Maravich who held that record for 50 years. Unfortunately, Iowa could not win a title before she concluded her senior year.

The first round of the 2024 WNBA Draft featured Caitlin Clark as the top pick selected by the Indiana Fever. Stanford’s very won Cameron Brink was selected 2nd overall by the Los Angeles Sparks. LA will most likely become the best defensive team with Brink on the roster. Angel Reese (7) and one of her biggest NCAA rivals Kamilla Cardoso will be playing in Chicago. Utah’s Alissa Pili was selected 8th overall to the Minnesota Lynx.
Caitlin Clark will fill up the Fever’s offensive void
The Fever is possibly the biggest winner out of the 2024 WNBA Draft with Caitlin Clark entering the scene. Indiana has not been the greatest team in the league nor have they made the playoffs since 2015. Over the last two seasons, the Fever was one of the worst teams in the league. Offensively, their best scorer is All-Star Kelsey Mitchell, who averaged 18.2 points per game while shooting 39.8% from deep on 6.4 attempts per game.

Indiana’s second-highest scorer was NaLyssa Smith, who averaged 15.5 points along with a team-high 9.2 rebounds per game last season. Clark could bring great offensive power not only in scoring but also in playmaking as well. In college, she averaged 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game. Her versatility alone can bring out more productivity from other players in select categories.
Caitlin Clark can help Aliyah Boston enhance her output on defense
Indiana ranked 11th in the league last season in defensive rating. Aliyah Boston, who was selected as the No.1 overall pick in 2023 led the team in defensive statistics. She averaged 5.3 defensive rebounds along with 1.3 steals and blocks per game. Caitlin Clark is someone who can adjust their game according to what her team needs, especially due to her incredible versatility on the court.

Clark has been able to rebound the ball at a high level while averaging 1.5 steals per game as well. Her presence could remove some offensive burden off of Boston while giving her all the leisure to work within the paint. Additionally, Clark’s passing ability could complement Boston’s scoring capabilities inside the arc. Clark and Boston could form what could be the next Shaq and Kobe but in women’s basketball.
