The Dallas Mavericks played against the Los Angeles Lakers recently and the game was as classic as fans anticipated. The Mavs started Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic alongside one another again in the hopes of landing another win after beating the San Antonio Spurs recently. But the Lakers had other plans when they made a sensational comeback from a 27-point deficit. This is only the first time that we have witnessed it in the NBA this season.
The Mavs started the game on the front foot, and the Lakers struggled to keep up on both the offense and defense. This has been the case almost all season, and it wasn’t any different on the night. Luka was arguably the Mavs’ best player on the floor with 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. The numbers do not tell the whole story though. The Slovenian superstar had 6 turnovers against the Lakers. Moreover, his body language didn’t sit too well with a fan.
Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic has been one of the best players of this season. Many back the Serbian to win his third MVP award in a row as he continues to put up ridiculous numbers almost every game. With that said, his attitude and work rate is understandably the reason for his success in the NBA. A fan on Reddit recently claimed that Luka should take inspiration from the Joker and learn how to prioritize the game.
NBA fan believes Luka Doncic should follow suit in Nikola Jokic’s footsteps in terms of attitude
The fan wrote, “He’s always speed walking or jogging in transition and looks totally gassed as early as the third quarter. He needs to chill out on all the food, cigars, hookah, and alcohol. His recent vacation in Mexico definitely didn’t help either. Who’s going to tell him to take things more seriously?”
“It doesn’t set a good precedent for your team when your star player doesn’t put a lot of effort on their body. We saw what a difference it made for someone like Jokic when he decided to prioritize his health more, maybe Luka should hit him up for some advice,” they added.
It is no secret that Luka enjoys having some time off the court with hookah and alcohol. This was the case recently when he said he was looking forward to spending his All-Star break in Cuba. However, this didn’t go down too well with the fan as well. Luka has raised eyebrows with his fitness in the past but has done well to get back into shape.
One of the main reasons for the Lakers’ win would be new arrival Jarred Vanderbilt. He didn’t set one step wrong during the game and even led Mavs head coach Jason Kidd to admit, “He kicked our a** tonight, offensively and defensively.” It would be interesting to see how Doncic takes the criticism and whether he can effectively pair up with Kyrie and better their 3-1 record so far.
