For those who aren’t aware, Robbie Avila knocked down 35 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists against Evansville. Indiana State is scheduled to play their last game against Murray State on Sunday. They rank atop the Missouri Valley Conference right now, with a 16-3 home and 22-5 overall record. Avila was most responsible for the Sycamores’ successful run this season.
Why is Robbie Avila called Cream Abdul-Jabbar?
The answer is plain and simple. Robbie Avila wears a pair of goggles on the floor that resemble what Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wore towards the latter half of his career. However, it isn’t the only reason as Avila has been putting up incredible stats this season. He has averaged 17.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game on 54.8% from the field.

Avila is currently a sophomore athlete and there is no word of him possibly joining the NBA anytime soon. But one thing is for sure, he is bound to reach higher levels as he progresses in the sport. Avila has mostly mimicked the game of Nikola Jokic. The latter is arguably the best playmaker at the center position. And just like Jokic, Avila also carries an incredible shooting percentage.
Robbie Avila proves his worth by putting Indiana State on the map again
It has been made because of Robbie Avila that the Indiana State Sycamores are back on the map. This team was famous for accommodating an NBA legend named Larry Bird. The former 3x NBA Champion was named MVC Player of the Year and National Player of the Year during his tenure at Indiana State. They also retired his jersey No.33 which currently hangs above the rafters.
Indiana State has never seen as much success as it is ever since Bird’s tenure. Robbie Avila has earned his stripes as a player, but he has a lot to prove as someone representing the Sycamores. Indiana State has far tougher competition in the league waiting for them once the NCAA tournament begins. Teams such as UConn, Marquette, Creighton, Purdue, and Arizona will pose major threats.
