SUMMARY
- Draymond Green discussed Victor Wembanyama and Jayson Tatum on his podcast.
- Draymond claims that Wemby shouldn't win the DPOY award despite leading the NBA in blocks.
Draymond Green had fans locked into an intense debate following his most recent statements surrounding Victor Wembanyama and Jayson Tatum. As most NBA fans should be aware by now, Draymond is a veteran currently playing for the Golden State Warriors. He also conducts a podcast and shares his own opinion on the game and has even gone far enough to claim that he can be considered a part of the new media.
Over the years, Green’s podcast has generated quite a lot of attention from fans and media members alike. However, his recent statements on two of his fellow NBA stars almost sent the basketball community into a frenzy trying to decipher what Draymond meant. That said, a closer look at the situation and an attempt to do the same is almost undoubtedly required.
Did Draymond Green make an accurate comparison between Tatum and Wemby?
Fans who have been watching the NBA media discuss league activities and players will be aware that some of them tend to go on a tangent at times and make statements that do not appear to have much logic behind them. One could argue that Draymond did the very same thing on his podcast.
While discussing the chances of Victor Wembanyama winning the Defensive Player of the Year award, Draymond drew up a comparison to Jayson Tatum’s chances of securing the regular season MVP award and confused fans in the process.
Draymond Green says Victor Wembanyama doesn’t deserve DPOY, and implies that if he wins DPOY, then Jayson Tatum deserves MVP

“So he’ll (Wemby) have these numbers and he’ll have the opportunity to win defensive player of the year.I still don’t think you can give that award to somebody who’s on the 24th-best defense in the league. If you are doing that, well then you gotta move the needle back for Jayson Tatum. it can’t be ‘Oh man they gotta win a championship before Jayson Tatum can win MVP.’ You gotta move that needle back cuz clearly, we’re just moving the needle whenever we feel like we can if you’re going to give Victor the DPOY award.”
That statement did not make any sense CTE kicking in already

Perhaps Draymond trying to claim that Wemby winning the DPOY award should be considered as unlikely as Jayson Tatum winning the MVP award. However, fans are left wondering if there is any truth of merit to the Warriors star’s statements.
Victor Wembanyama leads the NBA with 186 blocks so far this season
Some can claim that Wemby came into the league with as much pressure and expectations as any star in the history of the league. After all, he was hyped up as a 7’4 center with the skills of a guard. Although his team hasn’t seen much success collectively, there is no denying that Wemby is currently one of the best defenders in the league as he is leading the NBA in blocks.
