SUMMARY
- Draymond Green claims that his associates believed the Warriors would never be successful after he got drafted in 2012.
- Green and Steph Curry believes that the Warriors can still fight through the struggles.
Draymond Green became a huge topic of concern for the Golden State Warriors during their 2023-24 season run. Frustrations grew high after the Warriors had a rocky start to the season, and the veteran forward behaved erratically for reasons we may never know. Green attacked various players during games but it was after he elbowed Jusuf Nurkic unnecessarily that the NBA suspended him indefinitely.
After all that was said and done, the former Defensive Player of the Year seemed to acknowledge his behavior but also claimed that how he plays the game generally. After missing 16 games (12 games via suspension), Green returned better than ever. It was towards the end of the regular season that he also brought out his best side and began scoring more. Though it was enough to give the Warriors enough wins to secure the 10th seed, there were tons of other issues.
Draymond Green doesn’t believe the Warriors need to be frowned upon
In a recent episode of The Draymond Green Show, the 4x NBA Champion recalled the time he got drafted by the Warriors in 2012. He claimed that Marshawn Lynch made fun of him claiming the Warriors would never win. He said, “That story is less about Marshawn but just more about what the Warriors were… To think 12 years later, won four titles with the same guys. Six finals appearances with the same guys won 73 games with the same guys. Hardly ever lost. We lost three playoff series fully healthy. In 11 years, that’s crazy to accomplish.”
He agreed that Lynch’s claims of the Warriors being the laughing stock of the NBA were true, but Green, alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson changed the narrative. “To think that we’ve done all of this together? Changed the way basketball is played, together. Changed the way Championships are viewed these days. You got guys in the NBA talking about winning Championships. That was never a thing,” he added. Green claimed that the Warriors were responsible for making the NBA title a must-win accolade to have a memorable legacy in any way.
Draymond Green revealed a heartfelt exchange with Steph Curry following the Warriors vs Kings loss
Unfortunately, after a challenging season, the Warriors were eliminated by the Sacramento Kings during the Play-In Tournament. Based on their historically terrible run, people say that might’ve been the Big 3’s last game together. Klay Thompson went scoreless during the entire game, and the Warriors aren’t expected to give him an extension after the underwhelming season he just had. Following this season, Thompson will become an unrestricted free agent.

However, Draymond Green claims that there’s still hope for the Warriors. He revealed that he had a brief exchange with Curry in the locker room after the game. “Right after the game in the King’s locker room, I said, ‘I love you, bro.’ He’s like, ‘I love you too, we ain’t done.’ You’re right, got it, noted. You’re right, we ain’t,” he said. Both individuals have rallied for Thompson to be re-signed claiming that he’s an important part of the team. However, there is still a business aspect to the NBA that might break up the glorious dynasty created in 2012.
