SUMMARY
- Doc Rivers has endured a 3-7 since joining the Milwaukee Bucks.
- JJ Reddick claims that Rivers has never taken accountability for his failures but has chosen to blame his players instead.
Ex-NBA star JJ Reddick has seemingly had enough of Doc Rivers’ antics. The latter is considered to be one of the best coaches in the league, with a history of major success. He has experience coaching multiple superstars of past and present eras. Doc was recently hired by the Milwaukee Bucks midway through the season. But ever since he assumed his role, the Bucks have been on a terrible 3-7 run.
Over three weeks ago, he commented on being appointed as the Bucks’ newest head coach midway through the season. He claimed he would never want other coaches to be put in the same position. In fact, Rivers claimed he didn’t want to assume the position immediately after Adrian Griffin was sacked. He wanted to join the team after the All-Star Weekend. However, he subtly blamed the Bucks for pressurizing him into assuming his role effective immediately.
JJ Reddick doesn’t appreciate Doc Rivers making excuses for his shortcomings
JJ Reddick went off on Doc Rivers’ history of blaming everybody and everything else besides himself for his team’s failures. Reddick’s rant came shortly after the All-Star Weekend took place and he seemed extremely furious. He said, “I’ve seen the trend now! I’ve seen the trend for years! The trend is always making excuses,” while speaking to Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe on ESPN.
JJ Redick calls out his former head coach Doc Rivers, who he will be replacing on ESPN/ABC’s NBA Finals coverage.
“I’ve seen the trend for years. The trend is always making excuses. Doc, we get it. Taking over a team in the middle of a season is hard… it’s always an excuse.… pic.twitter.com/NeTGnP1Suw

Reddick added, “Doc, we get it. Taking over a team in the middle of the season is hard. Just like getting traded in the middle of the season is hard for a player. But it’s always an excuse. It’s always throwing your team under the bus… There’s never accountability with that guy.” The former Los Angeles Clippers player also spoke about when Rivers blamed Ben Simmons for the Philadelphia 76ers’ downfall.
JJ Reddick gets involved with Patrick Beverley amidst Doc Rivers feud
Doc Rivers is currently under contract for three years with the Bucks. He will be paid an estimated $40 million until the 2026-27 season. Milwaukee recently signed Patrick Beverley to the team, and following JJ Reddick’s rant, the veteran point guard defended Rivers on X. Beverley said, “This Man Doc actually saved your career. Started you when no one else wanted 2. And u retire go on TV and say that.”
Pat my guy I had a four year offer with player option for the same money to be a starter for a different team. FOH “saved my career”. https://t.co/5lXowm2j8e

Reddick responded to the same post saying, “Pat my guy I had a four-year offer with player option for the same money to be a starter for a different team. FOH ‘saved my career’.” JJ made sure to help Patrick understand that joining Rivers’ Clippers team was a choice he made and not the only option he had. The Bucks are set to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on February 24.
