SUMMARY
- Steph Curry compares his relationship with Andrew Wiggins to one of a parent and child.
- Golden State Warriors fans react after hearing this analogy.
Golden State Warriors fans had quite a lot to say after hearing Steph Curry share his thoughts on Andrew Wiggins. As most of the NBA community should be aware, the Warriors were eliminated from postseason contention after losing to the Sacramento Kings in the play-in tournament.
Since the Warriors won the NBA championship in 2022, one can certainly understand why the team was low in sprits after failing to make it to the playoffs. In the postgame interview, Curry was questioned about Wiggins and his deterioration over the past 2 seasons. That said, people might wonder what Steph had to say and how other fans have interpreted his message.
Steph Curry has mixed feelings about Andrew Wiggins’ performance this season
Considering that the Warriors had just been eliminated by a team they beat in a 7 game series last season, fans can certainly understand why Steph Curry was not in the best state of mind heading into the postgame interview. After all, notions that the Warriors dynasty has finally come to an end gained quite a lot of momentum after their loss to the Kings.
“That message is for everybody it’s just a little louder for a guy like Wiggs who has performed at the highest level and helped us tremendously to win a championship. Like he’s fully capable and what he has to do is not easy…He usually has the assignment to guard the best perimeter guy, we want him to be aggressive offensively as well…and what he has to do requires energy and requires physicality…”
Steph Curry on his relationship with Andrew Wiggins:
“It’s like that parent-child relationship. Not to say he is a child but to only ask him to do what he is capable of doing.”

The Warriors star continued, “But he’s fully capable. Its like that parent-child relationship where you like, not to say that he’s a child, but to say like you only ask somebody to do what they’re capable of doing and that’s our energy towards Wiggs all the time.
Although Steph clearly defended his analogy and Wiggins, the damage had been done as fans across social media soon began to propagate a narrative that Curry considered Wiggins to be a child.
Fans opine that Curry mocked Wiggins for not living up to set expectations
Andrew Wiggins averaged just 13.2 points in the 71 games he played in this season. His scoring numbers were significantly lower compared to the 18.5 ppg he has put up throughout his NBA career so far. In the Warriors’ elimination game against the Kings, Wiggins scored 12 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
As a result, fans concluded that Steph was speaking the truth and need not have justified his example, “But he literally called him a child.”

Wiggins always had the talent but no dog in him. That’s pretty much what Steph is saying.

In any case, Warriors fans are left wondering if Wiggins will be able to return to form next season and whether the team has any chance to contend for an NBA title in the near future.
