SUMMARY
- Bronny James is yet to showcase his true potential in colllege.
- The USC Trojans guard currently averages 5.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
When it comes to Bronny James, the whole world gets excited to know about his stance on joining the NBA. He has made it clear that he wants to make a career out of basketball and this is the only giveaway that confirms his future in the league. The 19-year-old recently made his college debut and things haven’t turned out too great. This is mainly because James had a health scare that could’ve robbed him of his future in the sport.
Bronny committed to the University of Southern California in May 2023. However, over a month later, he suffered from a cardiac arrest during a USC Trojans practice session. After weeks of tests, the doctors eventually concluded that he had a congenital heart defect, which usually exists from birth. He went through heart surgery and officially made his college debut in mid-December.
So far, the Trojans have not had a great run as they rank 11th in the PAC-12 Conference. Bronny James has been trying his best to showcase his abilities on both ends of the floor. He currently averages 5.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. Considering what James is capable of doing, his stats haven’t lived up to the hype. So what does this say about his chances of being a top pick in an NBA Draft?
Is Bronny James going to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft?
Bronny James has carried a mindset very similar to LeBron James’ and that is to win now. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar aims to play alongside Bronny before hanging up his jersey for good. And based on what LA currently needs and LeBron’s wishes, the purple and gold could potentially push to draft the youngster whenever he declares to go pro.
However, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski recently stated that playing alongside his father should not be Bronny top priority. He said, “The Lakers are not a developmental program. They are a win-now program. So, what’s going to be best for Bronny James?… I don’t know if it is as cut and dry as all of it is around the idea of whether he can play with him [LeBron] or not… Maybe it’s a factor. But I do think for Bronny James, if he’s out this year, it’s the idea of what’s the best place for him too.”

Considering the slow start Bronny James has had in college, he has clearly not lived up to his full potential. If Bronny decides to push for the 2024 NBA Draft, rather than playing alongside his father, he should possibly go for a team that will shape him into a tough competitor. Or Bronny could also spend some more time in college and up his game before joining the NBA.
