SUMMARY
- Bronny James has been averaging 5.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game since his debut.
- The USC star has draw comparisons to 2x NBA All-Star Jrue Holiday.
Bronny James certainly did not achieve the best start to his college basketball journey. However, he is slowly setting a standard for where he wants to be before he goes pro. Considering that he an extremely talented on both ends of the floor and that he has a mentor who is widely known as the greatest of all time, the 19-year-old has a bright future ahead of him.
But not everybody has the same opinion on Bronny either. Former NBA superstar Gilbert Arenas expressed his thoughts on James’ progress. He said, “Bronny… he’s a Jrue Holiday, just more athletic. If he turns on his tiger, for sure. He just plays the right way. We don’t know what he really is.” Holiday is one of the best defensive guards in the NBA right now. He also has championship experience with two All-Star selections.
“He has the Bugatti engine, but he wants to drive the speed limit. He don’t want a ticket. ‘I don’t want a ticket.’ That’s how he uses his body,” he added. Bronny James has been playing through minutes restriction at times. Based on this, sources claim that recruits have him projected to be a late first-round pick. But some believe he is top 10 worthy.
Coach Andy Enfield describes Bronny James as a perfect team player
The USC Trojans have not had the ideal run in the PAC-12 conference. They rank 11th in the conference with a record of 8 wins and 11 losses. Before Bronny James made his debut, the Trojans had a fairly decent record. But things have not been working out for the better lately.
However, Head Coach Andy Enfield believes that James is as good a team player as one can be. He said, “The young man went through a situation this summer medically that was very difficult and challenging, Bronny James, he has no ego. He’s just a terrific teammate. He’s so easy to coach because he just wants to get better. And I think you see it. He played well and he is getting better.”
Since his debut, Bronny James has been averaging 5.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game on 38.1% shooting. He has proven that he can be a lethal defender and a skilled facilitator. This is similar to how Jrue Holiday works his skill set as well. Only time will tell how good James really is. He is also trying to adapt to having a couple of health risks along the way which is why he might be having a slower start than expected.
