In recent history, Anthony Davis has been one of the biggest stars in the NBA. Standing just under seven feet tall, the big man is an MVP-caliber player and has come very close to winning it multiple times. When he is in full form, the All-Star is a great stretch forward. He is arguably the best forward in the league when healthy.
He started his career with the New Orleans Pelicans back in 2012 playing alongside several veterans such as DeMarcus Cousins. After losing out on several missed opportunities, he decided to take his talents to the Los Angeles Lakers. He was lucky enough to win a championship during his first season with them, but his luck ran out during the following seasons. Anthony Davis has suffered from a series of back-to-back injuries ever since.
Lately, his ability to remain healthy has been questioned a lot by experts. The Lakers have also struggled a lot in his absence, especially when it comes to a point when LeBron James gets injured as well. Either way, the purple and gold have finally earned a shot at entering the playoffs via the play-in tournament.
What happened to Anthony Davis?
Anthony Davis missed an entire month’s worth of games between December and January due to an ankle injury. He eventually returned to the court in late January and managed to average 26.3 points and 12.5 rebounds, shooting 56.7% from the field, his best since joining the Lakers. Even without LeBron, AD managed to keep the Lakers at the eighth seed with a record of 39-38.
If they’re lucky enough to win the next five games, the Lakers will escape the play-ins and qualify for the playoffs. Unfortunately, Anthony Davis went down against the Lakers in a win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Davis later claimed that he would be alright during the postgame press conference. According to Sports Illustrated, AD is very sure he will suit up against the Houston Rockets. He is currently listed as probable.
Anthony’s sudden scares are concerning. Sometimes, the injury may not be too bad, but the result is never predictable. Davis will be able to pull off a couple of wins before the end of the regular season, but the Lakers will need a proper squad to enter the play-in tournament.
