Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were not only the best pair to have on a team but also had each other’s back off the court. Even though when Pippen got into the NBA draft in 1987, Jordan had been around for a few years.
They started playing together on the court when Pippen got traded to the Bulls. The duo went on to win 6 league championships together. Thereby leaving an ever-lasting impact on the walls of NBA history.
United by their shared passion for basketball, they imprinted their names on record books. However, things haven’t been the same for the duo over the last few years. Fans all over the world are noticing the off energy between the both.
This traces back to the Netflix documentary, ‘The Last Dance‘, which explicitly covered the Bulls’ 1997-1998 season. It focuses on the achievements of the team while also providing insights into Jordan’s personal life.
What did Scottie Pippen say about Michael Jordan?
The documentary which was released in April 2020, was an instant hit, with various interviews being taken about celebrities’ opinions of it. While everyone had something or another positive to say about it, there was one who disclosed his distinct opinion.
It was none other than, Scottie Pippen, who knew Jordan and his journey like no other. People suspect that he is not happy about the documentary from the time it was released. He decided to break the silence in December.
Pippen spoke to The Guardian and expressed that the documentary mainly focused on Jordan rather than the focus on the team. Him being actually on the team, and living all those experiences, he told how it wasn’t a true picture. He candidly stated, “I don’t think it was that accurate in terms of really defining what was accomplished in one of the greatest eras of basketball.”
He went on to talk about how Jordan’s personality and how too much focus on it actually backfired on him. In his words, “I thought it was more about Michael trying to uplift himself and to be glorified. I think it also backfired to some degree in that people got a chance to see what kind of personality Michael had.”
Furthermore, in November 2021, Pippen spoke about Jordan as well as the documentary in his memoir, Unguarded. He expressed, “Each episode was the same: Michael on a pedestal, his teammates secondary, smaller.” He continued, “The message no different from when he referred to us back then as his ‘supporting cast.”
Pippen let the world in on a different side of His Airness. He surely raised eyebrows with his comments and received plenty of criticism for his comments as well.
