Just a week after the tragic death of Kobe Bryant, his friend Lisa Leslie sat in an interview with “CBS This Morning”, to speak about Bryant’s legacy and friendship. The interview was taken by Gayle King who found herself in trouble after a short clip went viral. Bryant died in a helicopter crash and the whole sports world was mourning the loss.
It is undeniable that the loss of a friend had Leslie shaken to the core. Especially since both of them met each other at the start of their respective careers. Bryant dominated the NBA, whereas, Leslie was the unbeatable star in the WNBA. During her interview, she was asked about the infamous s*xual allegations against Bryant.
To which, Leslie responded, “I just never have ever seen him being the kind of person that would do something to violate a woman or be aggressive in that way. That was just never the person that I know”. Her response was filled with confidence, and she undeniably went to great extremes to protect Bryant’s reputation.
Not only this, but Leslie also emphasized that the media “Should be more respectful at this time”. She made a very valid point that the journalists had many years to ask questions to Bryant. Leslie added, “I don’t think it’s something that we should keep hanging over his legacy”. King in the start mentioned that people believe that Bryant’s legacy is complicated due to the allegations. Thereby, Leslie gave the perfect reply by circling back to it.
Gayle King was mortified by the out-of-context clip
Similar to Lisa Leslie, Bryant’s fans worldwide believed that the media should be more respectful at this sensitive time. Due to this, the short clip that was posted by CBS This Morning went viral and Gayle King was dragged into a controversy. She came forward to address this in a two-part video that was posted by her on X account.
In this, she revealed how she feels about the clip being posted out of context and without any prior information to her. King stated, “If I had only seen the clip that you saw, I would be extremely angry with me too. I am mortified, I am embarrassed and I am very angry. Unbeknownst to me, my network put up a clip from a very wide-ranging interview, totally taken out of context and when you see it that way, it’s very jarring”.

Additionally, she clarified that she kept getting back to the question so that Leslie’s perspective became very clear.
The co-host of CBS also revealed that she spoke to Lisa Leslie to make sure that she was okay with the interview too. Further, King said that it was upsetting that the network posted the clip out of context. She emphasized that she will be going to deal with this.
