- He tries to avoid consuming sugar and focuses on eating fruits instead.
It is officially 39 years since the birth of one of the greatest athletes ever, LeBron James. It has been ages since the NBA star came into the league, and his journey has been spectacular. Some may argue that his stint in the NBA is something out of a movie script as well. Every year, James out-beats himself on the court and supersedes the expectations that fans have for him. Surprisingly, father time has barely affected him either.
To remain as healthy as the Los Angeles Lakers star at that age requires a lot of discipline. James never stops training even during the off-season. He always posts videos and images of him working out with his sons, Bronny and Bryce. In addition to his tough workouts, he also has a very strict meal plan. Fitness freaks are probably aware of how important it is to have a healthy diet besides just working out extensively.
According to Yardbarker, LeBron James spends around $1.5 million every year to maintain a healthy diet. For commoners around the world, that would be an extremely high budget for food. However, James is making the best use of his billion-dollar net worth just to be at the top of his game.
For breakfast, the 4x NBA Champion usually has an egg white omelet, smoked salmon, and gluten-free pancakes with his favorite berries. The carbs come in during lunchtime when he opts for dishes like pasta with some kind of protein and vegetables. His meals during a game include fruits with almond butter, protein shakes with plant-based milk, or a classic PB&J sandwich. Dinners include chicken and salads with wine.
LeBron James’ sugar-free diet regime
The most dreaded father time usually kicks in when an athlete crosses the age of 35. It was around this time that LeBron James’ diet plan was revealed as well. Besides the nutrient-rich healthy diet mentioned above, James tries to avoid sugar at any cost. He revealed a sugar-free diet plan that he followed during an interview with Men’s Health in 2021.
He said, “I had no sugars, no dairy, I had no carbs. All I ate was meat, fish, veggies and fruit. That’s it. For 67 straight days.” James heavily relies on the natural sugars from fruits to keep him active during a game. Which is why that is a part of his pre-game snack.
“So the sugars I kinda cut out, but the carbs I kinda ramp up. Because you’re losing so many calories, you’re burning so many calories, burning all your energy throughout those games. So I kinda go heavy on the carbs because it gives you energy. It’s worked for me,” he concluded.
So in short, to be a king also requires you to eat or treat your body like a king. Even at the age of 39, LeBron James still averages 25.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game.
