NBA fans are wondering if LeBron James could potentially join the Dallas Mavericks after recent reports indicated that Kyrie Irving was actively recruiting his former teammate to partner up once again and compete for an NBA championship.
Up until this point, many had presumed that it was far more likely for Irving to join the Lakers and it probably still is far more likely. However, we shouldn’t completely dismiss the idea of LeBron reuniting with Kyrie or wanting to play alongside Luka Doncic. With that being said, let us take a closer look at what both teams could do if they are interested in making this happen.
What trade package could the Dallas Mavericks offer the Los Angeles Lakers for LeBron James?
This has not been a good NBA season for Mark Cuban’s Dallas Mavericks. Despite being the Western Conference Finalists heading into this season, the Mavs failed to even make the NBA postseason. They even added Kyrie to the roster when he and Durant departed from the Brooklyn Nets.
Both Kyrie and Luka are transcendental offensive talents. The addition of even an aging LeBron James to their roster could dramatically turn things around for the franchise. Especially if he takes over the role of facilitating and putting Irving and Doncic in positions to succeed.
Although this would mean the pairing up of three incredible stars, albeit in differing stages of their careers, it would also mean that the Mavs lose important defensive players. This is something that they were already lacking in the first place. The responsibility of guarding the best players in the opposition might fall onto Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, and JaVale McGee.
If this trade could even happen, the Mavericks will have to wait until perhaps the trade deadline next season in order to understand the situation with the Lakers. It is highly possible that the All-Time leading scorer demands a trade and the Lakers have no choice but to move on from him. The desire to remain in contention could also urge them to move on from LeBron and build a team around Anthony Davis.
