Brian Scalabrine was someone not everybody was aware of during a time when several other players took over the league. This individual was most known for his stint with the Boston Celtics. He was also a part of the 2008 Championship team as well. However, he was the butt of the joke on several occasions. Fans would make fun of him for his lack of contributions. But Scalabrine knew he was in the league for a reason.
After leaving the NBA for good, the former Celtics player went around the country challenging several amateur league players. And long story short, he dominated everybody. He once revealed a story to Duncan Robinson on The Long Shot podcast. Scalabrine revealed that he trashed a couple of amateur players who believed he wasn’t good for the sport.
He said, “Playing this YMCA rec league… I had a good game. I had 60 the other night in my rec league.’ So, people immediately started tweeting, ‘You suck, Scal. I’ll beat you.’ Brian automatically defended himself and scouted some of the best amateur players who spoke trash to him online. “I’m like, ‘Listen. I may suck for an NBA player. Those guys are pretty good. But I don’t suck compared to you,” he added.
There was a famous quote that Brian Scalabrine said that took the world by storm. The ex-NBA player allegedly told Robinson, “I’m way closer to LeBron than you are to me.” Scalabrine told his haters exactly what Robinson later quoted after the podcast was filmed. This happens to be one of the biggest moments in Scalabrine’s life as well when compared to any other time of his career.
Brain Scalabrine revealed the motive behind The Scallegen
During the podcast, Brian Scalabrine told the Miami Heat guard about his struggle to fit into any environment growing up. However, the basketball court happened to be his only place of comfort, even as a professional. He also revealed why he chose to document himself playing against elite amateur players and participating in recreational leagues.
“I love basketball, I do. When I got done playing in the NBA, I played in like every rec league. I also flew around the country and I wanted to go into like the hoodest of hoods of pick games. I always wanted to do it. Not [that] I didn’t put it on Instagram or anything like that. I actually just wanted to do it for me. I just wanted to see what it was like playing in different places,” he said.
Brian Scalabrine was selected by the New Jersey Nets during the 2001 NBA Draft. He was a second-round 34th pick, who didn’t have much recognition. However, he also played for the Chicago Bulls after he concluded his run in Boston. He averaged 3.1 points, 2 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game on the floor. Brian currently appears as a television analyst for the Celtics.
