Victor Wembanyama is not the only one in his family who is making waves for his remarkable basketball skills. His younger brother, Oscar Wembanyama, who is just 16 years old, carries the same if not better athletic genes. He is playing in France and has already established himself as a great player.
Both of the Wembanyama brothers were born and brought up in France. Their parents, Felix Wembanyama and Elodie de Fautereau are themselves from a sports background. Felix is a former track and field athlete, whereas, Elodie was a basketball player.
In addition to two sons, Felix and Elodie have a daughter named Eve Wembanyama who is also a basketball player expected to make it to the WNBA. Furthermore, Victor Wembanyama is the tallest NBA player. Oscar Wembanyama has been playing basketball for relatively a short time. Yet, he was able to achieve a significant achievement by taking the U15 national title home. In an interview with EuroLeageBasketball, he spoke about his journey as a basketball player.
He revealed that he played very little basketball growing up. This was when his mother used to organize training courses for children. Additionally, he told how he got interested in the game and started appreciating it. Oscar said, “In my city, all my friends did it. That’s what made me appreciate the sport. I think I was considered a prospect, you could say”. It was an impressive revelation that left fans surprised.

Furthermore, he expressed how his siblings who were renowned French champions had an impact on him and his goals. He is inspired by Victor’s success but doesn’t feel the pressure. Oscar spoke about winning the U15 national title and said, “It was incredible. I felt proud, of course, and it was the accomplishment of my whole season. Especially for my first year”. Fans await to see what he brings to the court in the coming years.

Victor Wembanyama’s younger brother Oscar Wembanyama stepped in the same footsteps as him by playing for the same teams. He made his debut in 2020 after signing with the Nanterre’s U-15 team. Oscar had a fruitful two years wherein he displayed his impressive skills.
Additionally, he continuously uplifted his performance and likely trained with his siblings to improve and get his skills at an upper level. In the same year when Victor left the ASVEL and joined Metropolitans 92, Oscar joined the ASVEL.

Furthermore, Oscar has stated how he wishes to be different than Victor and doesn’t feel pressurized. In his own words, “I don’t particularly feel in [Victor’s] shadow. My goal is not to do exactly like him but to write my own story, as beautiful as possible”. It would be impressive to witness if and when Oscar declares for the NBA, and whether he would join Victor in the same team.
