Could the Dallas Mavericks enter the ongoing Damian Lillard trade discussions and help resolve the situation? As several NBA fans should be aware by now, the Portland Trail Blazers star made his request to leave his team very public and clear several weeks ago.
Although many NBA experts and analysts believed that the Blazers would inevitably trade Lillard, no approved trade package has materialized at the moment. After all, the Portland Trail Blazers have already made it very clear that they are not interested in receiving Tyler Herro and future draft picks for Damian Lillard.
Hence, the trade discussions have appeared to reach a stalemate. Several reports have also revealed that the Blazers might hold onto Dame all the way until the upcoming season’s trade deadline in February 2024. However, it is possible that this trade will go through quicker if another team like the Dallas Mavericks enters the trade as an interested party. With that being said, let us take a closer look and find out more.
How can the Dallas Mavericks aid a Damian Lillard-Tyler Herro trade?
Since the NBA is a business, all franchises are competitors and looking to stop the rest from getting too far ahead. When a team decides to trade away a star player, it is possible to include a third team with additional assets in the deal. That allows everyone to come out of the trade as winners.
In this case, the Blazers don’t want Tyler Herro. Therefore, the Miami Heat could approach a third team such as the Dallas Mavericks, and include them in the trade. That way, Herro would head to Dallas, Lillard would be a part of the Miami Heat and the Blazers would receive assets from both teams.

At the moment, it is unclear whether the Mavs are interested in acquiring Herro. Although he is a talented scorer, Dallas already has two of those on its squad. If we are to assume that they want Herro. If both the Heat and Mavs agree to this deal, they could offer a package surrounding Tim Hardaway Jr., Richaun Holmes, Duncan Robinson, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and future draft picks for Damian Lillard.

Although none of these players are more established or proven when compared to Tyler Herro, it is quite possible for the Blazers to take this deal as opposed to getting just Herro in return for Lillard. We look forward to seeing which teams the Miami Heat will approach with the intent to secure Damian Lillard.
