LeBron James undoubtedly has a successful NBA career, his remarkable skills have led him to countless accolades and recognition. In addition to this, he has tried his hands at an acting career which was greatly celebrated by his fans. There are numerous movies and TV shows that James has starred in.
One of the most anticipated ones was the basketball-theme movie ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’, which was released on 16 July 2021. Largely since James was the second NBA player to have a role in this film series. The first part of the movie ‘Space Jam’ which hit the cinemas in 1996 had Michael Jordan play the lead.

However, fans’ expectations were not quite met, and they flooded the review sections with low ratings and reviews. Viewers believed that the standard set by the first part was not well met in the sequel. James who was the lead in a movie for the first time did not seem to be affected by this.
Instead, he had just a two-word message for the haters. The Lakers star took to his Twitter to share an article and he captioned it “Hi Haters!”. The article spoke about how ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ did better than Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ in the second week.
Was Space Jam 2 a flop at the box office?
Despite the reviews and ratings indicating that the movie was a ‘Failure’, the box office earnings paint a different picture. LeBron James’s Space Jam 2 earned a grand total of $163.7 million at the box office. This figure is nowhere near the $230.6 million that Space Jam earned. However, it certainly can’t be termed a flop at the box office.
James who is a part of the billionaire-athlete group along with Jordan and Tiger Woods got $13 million for acting in the movie. His staggering net worth is a result of his contracts, endorsement deals, and his acting career. It is undoubtful that James is a multi-faceted personality who knows how to excel in various things.
While James did not get the reaction from his fans that he likely expected, he did receive an acknowledgment from the box office department. They stated via Deadline, “Even with Space Jam: A New Legacy in homes on HBO Max, Warner Bros. proves again that when they shell out on TV spots, they can open the film in movie theaters to a solid number, and in this case, it was the best 3-day we’ve seen for a family film during the pandemic with $31.65M”.
Furthermore, James’ acting career has soared to great heights, and this year a movie based on him was released in June. ‘Shooting Stars’ which portrays the high school sports career of LeBron James was met with as much excitement as his performance on the NBA court.
