NBA 2K MyCareer mode. The virtual world in which everyone who doesn’t carry the rare privilege of being able to call themselves ‘NBA players’ can live out their dreams. MyCareer is possibly NBA 2K‘s most popular game mode every year and NBA 2K24 looks to be no exception to that trend.
The MyCareer game mode has a few tweaks every iteration of the game but they all possess the same base concept. The player is thrust into the shoes of an NBA draft prospect, sometimes in their one-and-done year at college, in the G-League, or even overseas.
The user is then drafted into the NBA, to a team of their choice and they play out the NBA season while completing other side activities to earn ‘Virtual Currency’ or VC to use to upgrade their players’ skills and animations.
In NBA 2K24, Side Quests are expected to no longer be required in MyCareer.

NBA 2K24 however is rumored to be making one fundamental change to the usual player’s journey. Playing into their “more-streamlined” approach to 2K24’s MyCareer mode, Take-Two Interactive is rumored to be removing the side-quests from the game mode.
NBA 2K24’s side quests to be optional
Per the description that is listed on online retailers, NBA 2K24’s MyCareer mode will be “rich” with optional side quests in the new tropical version of The City. This comes as a surprise as tedious side quests have been the staple of previous 2K’s and to see them be labeled as optional is inspiring.

Players expressed optimism with regard to the description, as there were widespread complaints over how 2K23 approached MyCareer. 2K23 owners took issue with the lengthy Main quests that needed to be completed before entering games and were described by one popular NBA 2K YouTuber as “terrible.”
However, it remains to be seen how exactly MyCareer will approach the mode without the use of filler side quests. There is only so much a player can do with respect to NBA games and mandatory interviews or gym workouts.
Adding to this, there is usually a significant grind to getting badges like the ‘Mamba Mentality’ or ‘Gym Rat’ that require the completion of multiple tasks. It is yet to be seen how NBA 2K24 will present the challenges to acquiring these necessary perks.
At the end of the day, if 2K really has found a method to enrich the game mode with meaningful content and enjoyable adventures, then it truly will help them fend off the “same game every year” allegations.
