Michael Chandler has given a huge update on the Conor McGregor fight albeit from sources close to Conor that the fight is happening and it’s happening this year.
The former UFC lightweight title challenger has confirmed that he met with the UFC before his appearance at UFC 303, and the conversation as you might have already guessed, was about The Notorious. “it’s always related to Conor.” He said.
“Sources close to Conor, like yourself, I am sure know, that he is gonna be ready in September, August, so we can make some things happen.” He further added.
Negating any possibility of a different opponent, McGregor had earlier confirmed during his recent appearance at Bellator Dublin that the promotion is looking for a new date for the hugely anticipated PPV. Chandler’s comment only seems to further cement that The Notorious will be back inside the Octagon later this year.
Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler can happen at Riyadh Season Noche UFC
Earlier this week, UFC announced the rebranding of UFC 306 to Riyadh Season Noche UFC set to down on September 14, inside The Sphere in Las Vegas. Heading into the PPV, everything was pointing toward a showdown between Sean O’Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili, however, the UFC has yet to announce that fight.
It won’t come as a surprise if the UFC decides to put McGregor vs Chandler as the headliner, with the likes of O’Malley vs Merab Dvalishvili, and Grasso vs Shevchenko to complement the main card. The timing of McGregor’s return couldn’t have come at a better time considering the promotion has spent more than $16 million, in the making of the event.
Conor McGregor at The Sphere truly makes it the greatest sporting event in combat sports history
Conor McGregor inside the Octagon is always special, but he inside The Sphere is truly something that exceeds expectations even for a McGregor PPV.
While the 1 million buys mark is kept as the bare minimum for a PPV featuring the former two-division Champion, the kind of business that The Sphere is expected to bring will only be multifold with Conor McGregor on it.
Testimony of the $20 million gate that Dana White claimed for UFC 303 at the time when the Notorious was supposed to fight on the card, one can only imagine the kind of money that the promotion stands to make, if the stars align for the Dana White-led UFC.
