- Luka Doncic has fans praising him over his Overwatch skills after securing a top 500 rank as a grand master.
- Doncic hasn't had the best offensive run over the last five games shooting over 20% from deep.
It isn’t too often that you get to see professional athletes dabble around in other fields, but Luka Doncic isn’t a stranger to it. The 5x All-Star has been having his best season yet averaging insane numbers while the Dallas Mavericks battle it out for a chance to raise championship gold. Dallas is currently paired against the Oklahoma City Thunder, who managed to secure the top seed in the Western Conference.
The Mavericks faced an unfortunate Game 1 loss to OKC in the second round series. Doncic hasn’t been on the floor for a while due to a lingering knee injury and sickness. However, the Slovenian tries to make most of the time off he gets between games by playing Overwatch 2. Recently, he posted a story on Instagram that showed that he ranked among the top 500 players as a grand master in the video game.
Fans grow impressed over Luka Doncic’s Overwatch rank
Gaming is probably a hobby Luka Doncic uses to release some steam and unwind before a game. Some fans were quite impressed that he managed to rank amongst the best Overwatch players around. One fan said, “Look at my goat, he’s great at everything.” Another fan added, “He is that dude in all domains of life.” Some were also wondering if Doncic uses various video game tactics in real life.

It is quite impressive that Luka managed to reach the top 500 while using a gaming laptop. Laptops aren’t particularly the best devices to use for gaming either. And the Mavericks aren’t the only NBA player who spends time gaming during his off days. Devin Booker is also a dedicated gamer away from the floor. Known for playing Call of Duty, Booker was also recently introduced as a character in Modern Warfare III and Warzone.
The Mavericks need Luka Doncic to find a rhythm
Over the last couple of games, Luka Doncic hasn’t been able to shoot the ball particularly well averaging 16.3% from deep in his previous five appearances. This also happens to be one of the worst shooting stretches recorded by a player in the post-season. His slump didn’t have much of an impact against the LA Clippers, but it hasn’t caused some damage against a defensive powerhouse in OKC.
Luka Doncic last 5 playoff games:
🧱 26.6 PPG
🧱 38.3 FG%
🧱 16.3 3P%
🧱 4 TOV per game pic.twitter.com/06B9chOj8h— BrickWrld (@BRICKW0RLD) May 8, 2024
Doncic was restricted to 1-8 from deep while shooting 6-19 from the field in Game 1. He finished with 19 points which was the lowest he’s scored over the last 10 games. OKC also managed to limit Kyrie Irving’s scoring ability as he finished with 20 points. The Mavericks need to figure out a solution to bring out the best from Doncic. This also means Jason Kidd might have to amp up the contributions from role players like PJ Washington or Daniel Gafford.
