Crown Jewel, which took place on November 4, 2023, was a blockbuster event. Several superstars, including Sami Zayn, Seth Rollins, Rhea Ripley, John Cena, Logan Paul, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, and others, were part of the event. In fact, the Premium Live Event featured many top-notch matches.
In one of those matches, Rey Mysterio was set to defend the WWE United States Championship against Logan Paul. The outcome of the match saw Logan defeat Mysterio to win the United States Championship. But there’s something else that caught the attention of the fans.
During the match, it looked like Mysterio had botched a springboard moonsault and was about to land on his head. But Logan caught him and saved him from a serious injury. This brought praise for Paul from all across the globe. However, it now seems The Maverick didn’t deserve so much credit for saving Rey. Here’s why.
Rey Mysterio clears the air about Logan Paul saving him
Recently, Rey Mysterio appeared for an interview with Chris Van Vliet. During that, he was asked if Logan Paul actually saved him during Crown Jewel. To this, Rey said, “Naw! They’re hyping it up. And I know Logan took credit for it. That’s funny because I always do that Moonsault. I tried to advise him that I don’t jump out, I jump up. So, you might have to take a step in to be at the right spot and catch.”
He added, “So, sure enough, I jumped up and not out like I had said and he caught me. But, If he wouldn’t have been there, I would have moonsaulted and just landed on my tummy. But he did make a good save. He did make a good catch. And the fact, not only that he caught me, but that he powered me up, you know, he caught me in a squat position and he took me right back up and we continued.”

Finally, Mysterio stated that he respects Logan for his ability and in-ring performance, not for saving him. Thus, it can be understood that Rey denied Paul saving his life during the Premium Live Event.
Logan Paul thinks he almost killed Rey Mysterio during the botch
Logan Paul has received praise from the fans for his prompt response at Crown Jewel. But The Maverick thinks he almost killed his opponent during the botched spot. Paul previously opened up about the spot on his IMPAULSIVE podcast.
Logan said that while looking at the clip and assessing his performance, while he thinks he did save Mysterio, he also thinks he almost killed Rey. He added, “I think I was too far back and I think he didn’t clear enough ground for the move.”
The popular YouTuber then mentioned that, according to him, both of them made a mistake, and he ended up catching Mysterio. He said, “I wasn’t gonna not catch him.” Thus, it seems that while Mysterio rejected the thought of Paul saving him, Logan highlighted both of their faults.
Whatever the case, it was an extremely high-profile match and was thoroughly enjoyed by the fans. It now remains to be seen what lies ahead for Mysterio and Paul in the largest wrestling promotion in the world. Also, fans will look forward to seeing the two superstars face each other again soon.
