The Boston Celtics vs Dallas Mavericks series that awaits us on June 6 is undoubtedly going to be one of the most intense NBA Finals battles we’ve ever seen. Dallas has come out way better than expected beating three higher-ranked opponents in the Western Conference bracket, including the top seed in the division. The Mavericks also feature one of the best backcourt duos ever in Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Boston has also been extremely dominant, but they have a lot more on the line this year. Having made the finals in 2022, the Celtics are expected to know how to get the job done. Kristaps Porzingis is targeting an NBA Finals return after going down in the first round against the Miami Heat with a severe calf strain. He could very well uplift the Celtics on both sides of the floor. But one NBA coach believes they will face hardships against the Mavericks.
Caron Butler believes the Mavericks’ backcourt will cause great problems
Caron Butler has been an assistant coach of the Miami Heat since 2020 and the Celtics have been his biggest rivals in the Eastern Conference. Over the last five years, both teams have made two NBA Finals appearances. Butler recently broke down what could happen in the finals between the Mavericks and Celtics, and he claims Doncic and Kyrie are going to give the Celtics a run for their money.
During an appearance on The OGs Podcast, he said, “The [Mavericks] pick and roll is going to be a hazard for Boston. Two of the best pick-and-roll guys in all of basketball is who? [Luka and Kyrie]… Those guys are always going to have [an] advantage.” Caron claims that switching or blitzing will still not give the Celtics an upper hand in any situation. The former NBA player turned coach believes the Mavericks will win in six games.
Derrick Jones Jr. claims Mavericks are unbeatable in a seven-game series
Derrick Jones Jr. is one of the three key role players on the Mavericks’ squad moving into the NBA Finals this year. Jones has been lethal on the defensive end while players like PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford have stepped up immensely ever since being acquired. The forward recently claimed that the Mavericks are uber-confident, so much so that nobody can beat them in a seven-game series right now.
“We believe that we can beat anybody. That underdog, I don’t like that really… I don’t really think that anybody can beat us in a seven games series.”

He said, “We believe that we can beat anybody. Underdog… I don’t like that, really. Everybody’s going to keep putting that narrative on us. If we go out there and play the game like we’re supposed to play it, I don’t really think anybody can beat us in a seven-game series.” Experts believe that the Mavericks a severe underdogs this year, especially due to their lack of experience in the post-season. The Mavericks will become the third-largest underdogs to win a title if they defeat the Celtics.
