SUMMARY
- The Undertaker has faced Giant Gonzalez a few times in his WWE career.
- However, it does not look like 'The Deadman' enjoyed his time wrestling the giant.
Mark William Calaway, aka The Undertaker, previously became a part of WWF/WWE in 1990. Thereafter, he rose to prominence with his ‘Undertaker’ persona. Not to mention, ‘The Phenom’ thoroughly entertained the fans within the Stamford-based promotion for 30 years.
During his tenure with WWE, The Undertaker gained popularity among fans with his WrestleMania Streak. This streak refers to Taker scoring 21 straight victories at the Grandest Stage of Them All. During this particular streak, ‘The Deadman’ faced a number of wrestlers.
In that regard, it is worth mentioning that during the early years of his WrestleMania streak, The Undertaker feuded with Giant Gonzalez. This resulted in a match between the two at WrestleMania IX, which took place on April 4, 1993.
With that, the outcome of the match saw The Undertaker defeat Giant Gonzalez via disqualification. Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that this was Taker’s only disqualification win at the Grandest Stage of Them All. With that, the WWE Hall of Famer later opened up about Gonzalez.
The Undertaker shared his thoughts on working with Giant Gonzalez
Several years after WrestleMania IX, The Undertaker shared his thoughts on working with Giant Gonzalez. The WWE Hall of Famer previously made an appearance on the Not Sam Wrestling Podcast.
During that, he said, “It was hideous. It was so bad on so many levels. I would be in much better shape now if I would have skipped that one program. As physically demanding as it was, it was twice the mental strain.”
Taker added, “It was survival every night trying to figure out what he could do.” He further mentioned that back then, he didn’t sell a lot or bump around. Finally, ‘The Deadman’ said that working with Gonzalez helped him and prepared him for being able to work with other people.
Thus, it seems, according to Taker, working with Gonzalez was disastrous. However, he also highlighted the good side of working with his former opponent. With that, it remains to be seen if ‘The Phenom’ will have anything else to share about his time with Gonzalez inside the ring.
WrestleMania IX was not the only time The Undertaker faced Giant Gonzalez
The Undertaker’s match with Giant Gonzalez at WrestleMania IX is still remembered by many. However, it was not the only time the two faced each other inside the ring. Taker and Gonzalez also faced each other at SummerSlam 1993, which took place on August 30, 1993.
At the Premium Live Event, the WWE stars faced each other in a ‘Rest in Peace match’. With that, the outcome of the match saw The Undertaker defeating Gonzalez. Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that this particular match was far better than their match at WrestleMania.
