Taylor Swift, the renowned pop star and singer-songwriter, has always been a topic of fascination among her fans. While no one can say for sure whether she’s a WWE fan or not, there seems to be a curious connection between Swift and WWE’s fiery female superstar, Becky Lynch.
Over the past few years, Becky Lynch has risen to become one of the most prominent figures on the current WWE roster, donning the moniker “The Man” in 2018. But intriguingly, a peculiar incident took place involving Taylor Swift.
In a twist of events, approximately a year later, Taylor Swift released a song titled “The Man.” In December 2019, she posted a picture of herself on Twitter with the caption, “When you’re pretttttty sure that if you were a man, you’d be the man.” Lynch, ever the witty one, responded sarcastically, accusing Taylor of copying her work, “When you’re prettttty sure that Taytay is copying your homework. 🙄”
In a 2020 interview with Instinct Culture, the current Women’s Tag Team Champion playfully called out Taylor Swift, poking fun at the situation, “Oh ah yes, Tay, Tay be stealing my homework, is that what happened? Is that what happened, Taylor? Wanna give me some credit, wanna give ‘The Man’ some credit? I’ll be in your video, alright.”
While Taylor Swift didn’t respond to Lynch’s playful remarks, fans couldn’t help but imagine what a showdown between the two powerhouse personalities would be like.
Becky Lynch was feuding with Ric Flair for her nickname “The Man”
In 2018, WWE witnessed the rise of Becky Lynch, who cleverly branded herself as “The Man” during her feud with Charlotte Flair, Ric Flair’s daughter. The catch was that Ric Flair had been using the nickname “The Man” since the 1980s, tied to his famous catchphrase, “To be the man, you gotta beat the man,” which he had trademarked.
This led to a heated dispute, with Ric Flair’s Limited Liability Company filing for the “The Man” trademark in September 2019. Becky Lynch, however, asserted her claim, defiantly tweeting that she was still “The Man.” Ric Flair fired back on Twitter, asserting his ownership, saying, “To Be The Man, You Gotta Beat THE MAN! #alreadytrademarked.”
The feud continued for a while, but eventually, both sides found common ground. Becky Lynch’s real-life husband, Seth Rollins, revealed on “The Pat McAfee Show” that Ric Flair personally reached out to Becky to apologize during a RAW event.
“He was man enough to come up and apologize to myself and to her and I thought that was awesome because I love Ric and I want to have a ton of respect for him and the fact that he was able to put his ego aside, bygones be bygones” said Seth Rollins.
Now, Becky Lynch and Ric Flair have put the feud behind them and are on cordial terms.
