Andy Murray has had several ups and downs in both his personal and professional life. He has seen both the highs of the sport and even the lows. The former world number 1 has been plagued with numerous injuries and dips in form.
Ever since his hip injury, he has never played the game at his best and he also had revealed that he had considered retirement at one point. However, Andy Murray will be remembered as one of the few players that challenged the domination of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic or popularly known as the big 3.
Andy Murray’s personal life may also have affected his overall game and morale. He recently revealed that he was very angry and upset after learning that his mother was sexually assaulted in 2014.
Andy Murray’s mother, Judy Murray had revealed in an interview last month that a drunken man had sexually assaulted her which left her sick to her stomach and disgusted.
Judy, 64 spoke about his incident in a public forum for the first time. Andy revealed that it was the first time he heard about this and his brother Jamie was already aware of this.
Andy Murray reflects on how he coped with the news
Andy Murray reflected on how he dealt with this news while speaking in an interview with Bloomberg. The Wimbledon winner stated that,
‘My mum did message me at the time to let me know that there was an article coming out about it, and I was really upset for her.
‘I was pretty angry, but also I didn’t know quite exactly what to say. I messaged my mum, I called her the following day to talk to her to make sure that she was OK. That sort of behaviour shouldn’t be tolerated anywhere.’
Andy Murray is currently fighting a battle with his fitness to ensure that he can participate in the Wimbledon. He surely wants to repeat his era of success which went on from 2013 to 2016. He is currently undergoing treatment for an abdominal injury.
He claims that he still has the motivation to compete on the highest levels. It will surely be quite a bit difficult for him to replicate his previous successes in the sport but he is not giving up yet.
Even though Andy Murray has missed quite a lot in tennis due to his injuries, he will still be considered as a dangerous and competitive unseeded player at the Wimbledon.
