Bret Sergeant Hart, aka Bret Hart, is a popular name in the World of professional wrestling. He is a second-generation pro wrestler and is a member of the famous Hart wrestling family. Hart stepped foot into the world of pro wrestling in 1978.
Bret Hart then became a part of WWE in 1984 and went on to dominate WWE television until 1997. During this time, the Montreal Screwjob took place. For the unknown, the Montreal Screwjob was an incident that took place at the 1997 Survivor Series Premium Live Event.
At the PLE, Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart faced each other for the WWF Championship. The predetermined result of the match was for Hart to retain the title. But, during the match, Vince McMahon and a few other WWE executives manipulated the outcome of the match in Shawn Michaels’ favor.
The incident occurred without Hart’s awareness, thus, causing him to lose the title. This ultimately resulted in The Hitman leaving WWE for WCW. However, it now seems the WWE legend regrets his decision to leave the Stamford-based promotion for WCW.
Bret Hart shared his thoughts on leaving WWE for WCW
After the infamous Montreal Screwjob, Bret Hart left WWE for good. But he later returned to WWE and made an appearance on WWE television in 2010. It was also reported that everything was sorted between Bret, Vince, and Shawn.
Years later, in 2022, he appeared for an interview with The Ringer. During his appearance, he shared his thoughts on leaving the Stamford-based promotion and going to World Championship Wrestling.
Hart said, “Me and Shawn making up in the ring (in 2010) and shaking hands and all that, that was all very real and very moving for me. And was not something that was orchestrated.”
He added, “Shawn wanted that off his back and I was in a position to take it off his back and that was the best resolution for both of us. We’ve been friends ever since. And I’m grateful that he’s in a better place today.”
Finally, The Hitman stated that he wished that none of the bad history had taken place. He then said, “I wished I’d never left for WCW because I probably wouldn’t have had a stroke and I probably wouldn’t have had to wrestle Bill Goldberg.” Thus, it seems that though Hart had a noteworthy run in WCW, he wished he never went there in the first place.
All you need to know about Bret Hart’s WCW career
Bret Hart became a part of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in December 1997. Thereafter, he participated in several storylines and headlined numerous Premium Live Events. He also bagged many championships to his name.
This includes winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship twice, the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship four times, the WCW World Tag Team Championship once, and more. While in WCW, Hart had a match against Goldberg at Starrcade in 1999.
During this match, The Hitman suffered several concussions, which ultimately resulted in his retirement from pro wrestling. Hart’s last WCW appearance took place in September 2000, when he confronted Goldberg for his injuries. Following that, the WWE legend announced his retirement in October of the same year.
Thus, it seems Bret Hart’s WCW career might have been cut short due to the injuries he suffered. As of now, he no longer makes appearances in any pro wrestling promotions. Despite that, he has left behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by his beloved fans.
