There comes sad news for all the Kei Nishikori fans, he has recently declared that he will end his 2021 season due to an injury. The former world number 4 player was out of the court for some time. He was last seen in the Indian Wells where he was eliminated early in the second round. Since then, he has not been featured in the courts.
After the Indian Wells, he pulled out of the San Diego Open. Then he announced that he has withdrawn from the Vienna Open as well due to an injury. His fans were expecting that the 31-year-old player would soon make a comeback to the courts but that did not happen.
Kei reached his career-best ranking shortly after he reached the finals of the US Open in the year 2014. He became the first-ever Asian player to do so. But since then, he has struggled with injuries that have kept him out of the court, and also he has not been able to maintain consistency.
He reached the quarter-finals of the 202 Tokyo Olympics but he was he could not make it further as he was defeated by the 20-time grand slam winner Novak Djokovic. “I hurt my back some weeks ago before San Diego and it has continued to bother me,” said Kei Nishikori via a Twitter post. “It’s been a long year, coming back from injury and I look forward to the off-season. “Also look forward to having a strong pre-season training to make 2022 a great year” mentioned Kei.
