SUMMARY
- PSG crashed out of Champions League after losing to Borussia Dortmund in the semifinal.
- Afterward, Kylian Mbappe had a heartbreaking confession.
In what was a battle between David and Goliath, it was David who triumphed as Borussia Dortmund knocked out Kylian Mbappe and PSG out of the UCL semifinals. After a narrow 1-0 win at Germany, Dortmund traveled to Paris on Tuesday to face PSG at the Parc des Princes. However, Luis Enrique’s PSG failed to mark yet another comeback after their heroics against FC Barcelona in the UCL quarterfinal.
Niclas Füllkrug’s solitary goal in the first leg was the only thing separating the two sides as PSG and Borussia Dortmund locked horns in the French capital. PSG started the game on the front foot, creating several chances. The French giants even came close to grabbing the equalizer when the 18-year-old Warren Zaïre-Emery struck the post from close range.

Unlike PSG, Dortmund didn’t waste their chances as defender Mats Hummels scored a towering header from a corner to double Dortmund’s advantage. The entire match could be summed up by simply stating that PSG was wasteful- the Parisians had 30 shots on goal but had only five on target. They also hit the post four times in the second leg, including Kylian Mbappe missing an absolute sitter.

A visibly dejected Kylian Mbappe confessed in the post-match interview that he should have done more against Dortmund. He said, “I tried to help my team as best as I could but I didn’t do enough.” The French international blamed himself for his side’s loss for failing to convert the chances into goals. Lastly, Mbappe admitted that while winning the UCL is a very tough process, PSG is not very far from winning their first UCL title.
Kylian Mbappe goes viral for his reaction to Real Madrid question
Over the last couple of years, Kylian Mbappe’s future has always been a topic of controversy. After the defeat against Dortmund, Kylian Mbappe was asked by a journalist in the mixed zone about who will he support during Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the UCL semifinal. The PSG forward stormed off after hearing the question, with his gesture once again creating doubts over his reportedly imminent departure from PSG at the end of the season and his potential future move to Real Madrid.
Borussia Dortmund savages PSG and completes their revenge after 4 years
Meanwhile, it was a night of redemption for Borussia Dortmund as the Bundesliga outfits exacted their revenge on PSG after a long wait of four years. To put things into context, PSG and Dortmund clashed in the UCL round of 16 back in 2020. PSG managed to win the tie 3-2 on aggregate, after winning the first leg 2-0 in Paris and losing the return leg 2-1.
After their win, the PSG players mockingly performed former Dortmund star Erling Haaland’s iconic meditation celebration. While it has been four years since that incident, Dortmund certainly didn’t forget about it. The Dortmund social media admin retweeted the picture of the PSG players celebrating in Haaland’s style, which was shared by PSG’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle.

The Dortmund admin went one step further and added the caption, “Tastes like fine wine.” Despite the ongoing banter on social media platforms, it was a memorable night for the German side who reached the UCL final after 11 years. Dortmund will be now waiting for the result of the second leg UCL semifinal clash between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to find out who they will face in the final at Wembley Stadium.
