Cody Rhodes made his historic comeback to WWE at WrestleMania 38 and, since then, has arguably been the biggest babyface in the company. After defeating Seth Rollins in his return match, The American Nightmare main evented two consecutive WrestleManias, and ended up finishing his story at the 2024 edition of The Show of Shows.
The kind of backing Cody had from the WWE Universe probably helped him finally get his hands on the gold and thus end Roman Reigns’ historic reign. A lot of people believe Rhodes’ current run to be the greatest one of his career, but The Undertaker has a different take on this. It may shock many, but Taker believes that Cody’s bigger run will be as a heel.
The Phenom shared this during his recent conversation on the latest episode of his podcast with Chris Van Vliet, as he talked about The American Nightmare. While talking about everything that Rhodes has already achieved, Taker said that he feels the fan-favorite star is going to enjoy even more success when he starts portraying a heel character.
Talking about the same, The Deadman said, “I think he’s doing a phenomenal job. I think he’s gonna have a tremendous run as a babyface, but I think his bigger run will be as a heel. There’s just something about Cody with me that I envision a heel. It’s down the road because right now he’s killing it as the babyface.”
Looking at The Phenom’s comments, it seems like he’s pretty confident that Cody Rhodes is going to enjoy a lot of success when he turns heel. But it’s important to point out that it would be a huge decision by the Stamford-based promotion, as The American Nightmare is their biggest babyface right now. Will WWE take the risk of turning Rhodes heel? It’ll be interesting to see if it happens anytime soon or not.
WWE Universe shares its thoughts about The Undertaker’s intuition
As The Phenom’s comments about the potential heel turn of Cody Rhodes have grabbed the limelight, the WWE Universe has been sharing its views about The Undertaker’s intuition. Sharing how The Deadman is telling the truth, an audience member said, “He’s right, Cody will be a lot more interesting as a heel.” (Via: X)
Showcasing belief in Taker’s views about the character change for Rhodes, a fan wrote, “I trust Undertakers intuition.” “Cody is a natural heel. Just have to see when it happens,” a community member stated. “Heel Cody will be so fire and will feed millions for years,” a wrestling enthusiast commented after the WWE legend’s remarks about The American Nightmare.
Cody Rhodes was a heel during his AEW tenure
For those who are wondering whether Cody would ever be able to pull off a character from the dark side, he has already done it before. Cody Rhodes was a heel during his AEW tenure, and he did some of the best work of his career in the Tony Khan-led promotion during that run.
At first, Rhodes rejected the pitch of being a heel in All Elite Wrestling, but it led to a lot of backlash from the audience as he started getting booed a lot more. Following this, The American Nightmare continued portraying the character until he left the Jacksonville-based promotion. As his association with AEW came to an end, he joined WWE and instantly became a huge favorite among the fans.
Since coming to the promotion, Cody has been a babyface, but he hinted at a potential heel turn not too long ago. Even in an interview in May, he talked about how turning heel is not something he wants, but he’ll see if someone can convince him to turn heel. Now that Taker has stated that he feels Rhodes would be better as a heel, it remains to be seen if The American Nightmare eventually ends up turning heel in the near future or not.
