Jaylen Brown was given the biggest award of his career after the Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA championship. Almost all NBA fans will know that the Celtics were a dominant team throughout this season and made it all the way to the NBA Finals. There, they made up for their loss in 2022 by defeating the Dallas Mavericks within 5 games in order to win their first title in recent times and 18th championship in franchise history.
Although Jayson Tatum had been the best player on the Celtics throughout the regular season, it was Jaylen Brown who stepped up for the pressure-filled games that mattered the most. Therefore, the majority of fans supported the decision to give him the award over Tatum or any other member of the Celtics.
Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have played in 107 playoff games together
There is no denying that Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have come a long way as teammates. In their 7 seasons together, they have made multiple deep postseason runs and played in 107 playoff games together before finally winning an NBA championship. One could claim that they are the best duo in the NBA at this point in time.
After realizing that he had won the Bill Russell Finals MVP award, Jaylen Brown did not make the moment about himself. Instead, he chose to give credit to all the members of the Celtics who made this achievement possible.
“It was a full team effort and I share this with my brothers and my partner in crime, Jayson Tatum. He was with me the whole way. So we share this sh*t together…Uum just my faith in the most high, just believing in my teammates, my coaching staff and just being grateful for every moment, every opportunity. I never hung my head. I don’t care I don’t give a fu*k what nobody come out and say. We play basketball. Excuse my language I’m sorry.”The Celtics star was clearly filled with emotions and was unable to control his language when giving his Finals MVP award speech. Given that he and Tatum have been through a lot in their relatively young careers, one can certainly understand why he got caught up in the moment.
Jason Kidd’s efforts to split up Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown had no real effect
All the efforts made to split up Tatum and Brown in order to disrupt their dynamic and bond had no effect in these playoffs. Although the media had already been engaging in debates between the two for several years, even Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd attempted to do the same by claiming that one was better than the other throughout different points in the series.
Brown’s message about not caring regarding who came out and said what may have been a reference to Jason Kidd’s statements as the Finals were taking place. In any case, the Boston Celtics have silenced all critics and achieved the ultimate goal. Moreover, Jaylen Brown has been given his due credit for the impact that he has had on the team during this championship push.
