SUMMARY
- Bronny James still hasn't impressed NBA scouts despite having a surprising performance during the NBA Draft Combine.
- One scouts claims James easily compares to a poor man's Davion Mitchell while another claims no team besides the Lakers will draft him.
Bronny James is struggling to convince scouts he’s good enough to get drafted into the league. Over the last week and a half, the 19-year-old has been participating in NBA Draft Combine workouts. He participated in two scrimmages managing to tally 17 points while playing just over 30 minutes on the floor. He managed to lead his team to a victory in the second scrimmage as well.
There were two impressive takeaways from Bronny’s performance, his 40.5-inch vertical and three-point shooting efficiency. During one three-point shooting drill, James managed to hit 12/12 from beyond the arc. He scored 19/25 in the actual test, finishing second amongst the to-be rookies. DraftKings also officially moved him into the second-round projections.
Bronny James gets called “A poor man’s Davion Mitchell”
It turns out, despite the effort and hard work he put on display during the draft combine, scouts aren’t too impressed yet. An account named My Mixtapez on X revealed what two NBA scouts said about Bronny James. Unfortunately, both of them were terribly critical of the 19-year-old’s performance. Here are the takeaways from one of the two scouts.
- Positional athlete. Doesn’t function as an elite athlete.
- Should be a [Point Guard] based on his size, but he can’t run an offense.
- Handicapped as a [Shooting Guard] because he can’t shoot. 0-4 on threes one day. 1-3 the other day.
- Needs screens to create space and his only scoring came on paint touch floaters.
- He can only go left.
- His strength is supposed to be defensively, but he’s a switch matchup.
- Every bigger player that switched onto him scored.
- His comparison: A poor man’s Davion Mitchell.
- He is not an NBA prospect.

The other scout claimed that the LA Lakers could be Bronny’s only hope of getting into the league. Earlier, reports claimed that the Lakers were open to drafting Bronny James or making moves to acquire him somehow. The scout contended that no other team would be interested in drafting the USC guard.
Bronny James isn’t pleased with the criticism he faces for being LeBron James’ son
Unfortunately, multiple other experts have been more or less pleading with Bronny James to return to college and up his skills. James recently sat through an interview with SiriusXM. And it was one of his first times properly addressing the criticism he’s been getting solely based on the fact that he is LeBron James’ son. He said, “It’s tough. A lot of criticism gets thrown my way.”

He added, “But, I got to deal with it. They don’t know what I’ve been through. I just try to make the best of my opportunities that’s given to me.” Bronny seems committed to competing in the 2024 NBA Draft despite being out of the minds of scouts. He has until May 29 to withdraw from the draft and continue with his college eligibility. Besides the Lakers, the Utah Jazz reportedly had an interest in Bronny.
